For the learner:

Welcome to the Trends, Networks and Critical Thinking in the 21st Century
Alternative Delivery Mode (ADM) Module on Difference of Trends and Fads !
The hand is one of the most symbolized part of the human body. It is often used to
depict skill, action and purpose. Through our hands we may learn, create and

What I Need to Know

This module was designed and written with you in mind. It is here to help
you master the nature of Trends, Networks and Critical Thinking in the 21st
Century. The scope of this module permits it to be used in many different learning
situations. The language used recognizes the diverse vocabulary level of students.
The lessons are arranged to follow the standard sequence of the course. But the
order in which you read them can be changed to correspond with the textbook you
are now using.
The module is about the identifying parts of a whole (MELC 7, Week 2).
After going through this module, you are expected to:
1. Define what is cause and consequences.
2. Describe what causality is.
3. Identify what is the connection of cause and consequences to trends.
4.

What’s In
This is a brief drill or review to help you link the current lesson with
the previous one.

Fads and trends are the product of people’s reaction and people believe that
“EVENT+ PEOPLE’S REACTION’” can create either a Fad or a Trend depending to
the magnitude of the event.

What is it?

In this part of your journey, we provided something for you to deepen your
understanding about the topic.

Please read with comprehension to discover knowledge that will help you out in
dealing with the next phase of your quest.

Connections of Fads and trends to Cause and Consequences

Knowing the cause of one thing can help you predict of what’s going to
happen. Having foresight or being able to anticipate series of events, in
addition to having a hindsight and knowing the background will lead
you to more informed decision and more planned decisive actions.

In our society, there is no such thing as “it

Just happen”.

CAUSALITY
According to Alexander Spirkin, “causality
is the connection of 2 phenomena in which
one is the cause gives rise to or causes
something else the effect under certain
conditions. Its essence and importance lie
in the generation and determination of our
phenomenon by another”

Causes are active, these are the actions that

causes effect. But just as what spirkin have
said “its essence and importance lie in the
generation and determination of our phenomenon
to another” you may have cause something but
some effects also depend on other causes.
“After this” doesn’t always mean “because of this”.

10
The Space-Time Element
The connection between cause and effect takes place in time. However, there
are different views as to the co-existence between the two.

One view states that the cause always precede the effect. After some time,
the effect appears. The cause and effect will then co-exist for a period, until
the cause dies out and becomes the cause of something else.

Meanwhile, another view states that case and effect are always
simultaneous.

In this given event, is the consequence directly attributable to one cause?

Pressing an elevator button from the inside does not automatically closes
the dorr. There is certain amount of time before the command can be
interpreted by the system, and by the time the system interpreted the
action, there goes the action.
