Combination
B. Developmental Now we are going to test the fortune of your two classmates.
Phase/Lesson In our fortune test, your classmate that will be chosen randomly will pick in
Proper the box.
Activity There are two possible options, the sad and happy emoji’s.
There are also two possible outcomes, either you will win a prize or do a
consequence.
Your classmate will choose two out of 3 things in the price box if she/he pick
the happy emoji’s.
Same method with our consequences.
Okay let’s start!
(Student’s start doing the activity)
Guide Questions:
1. How was the activity?
2. What are the possible prizes that you could get?
Analysis
3. What combination of prizes did you choose?
4. What could be the numbers of the possible combinations to choose
from the prizes?
5. So, from the activity we had, who can guess the lesson for today?
Abstraction
Again, combination is a mathematical technique that determines the number
of possible arrangements in a collection of items where the order of the
selection does not matter.
Let’s recall our example 1 yesterday Nestor is going on a vacation trip, and he
needs to bring two t-shirts. He has five t-shirts with colors: red, blue, violet,
green, and yellow. How many possible combinations of t-shirts can Nestor
bring.
Given:
n=5 r=2
Solution:
n!
nCr =
r ! ( n−r ) !
5!
5C2 =
2! ( 5−2 ) !
5!
5C2 =
2! ( 3 ) !
( 5 ) (4 )( 3!)
5C2 =
3 !(2)(1)
20
5C2 =
2
5C2 = 10
Therefore, there are 10 possible combination of t-shirts Nestor can bring on
his vacation.
Given:
n=3 r=2
Solution:
n!
nCr =
r ! ( n−r ) !
3!
3C2 =
2! ( 3−2 ) !
(3)(2 !)
3C2 =
2 ! (1)!
3C2 = 3
Therefore, there are 3 possible combinations of choosing 2 prizes out of 3
prizes.
6!
6C3 =
3! (6−3)!
6!
6C3 =
3! (3)!
(6)(5)(4)(3 !)
6C3 =
3 !(3)(2)(1)
C
6 3 = 20
Now that you already know how to solve problem involving combination,
let’s test what you have learned.
Group Activity
Direction: The class will be divided in three groups with the number of members
varying. They will be given different problems. After the time given to answer, each
group will choose a representative to present their answer.
Application Group 1: There are 8 persons inside a room. If each person is paired with another
person to dance cha- cha, how many pairs of dancers are there in all?
Group 2: From the letters of the word LINEAR, in how many ways can one
consonant and two vowels be chosen?
Group 3: In how many ways can a principal choose 3 of their 30 teachers to attend a
conference abroad?
II. Evaluation
Direction: In a ¼ sheet of paper, answer the given problem and show complete solutions neatly.
1. Last July 9, 2022, a solo winner bags Php 401 million for the 6/55 grand lotto.
In this game, there are 55 numbers, and only 6 numbers will be chosen as the
winning combination. How many possible combinations can be drawn for this
game?
III.REFLECTION
A. Number of students who got at most 80%.
B. Number of students who needs extra work for
remediation.
C. Is remediation helpful? Number of students who
understand the lesson.
D. Number of students who need to continue for
remediation.
E. Which of the
following teacher’s
strategies has been
helpful to teach the
lesson? How it
became helpful?
F. What problem
did I experience that
was solved with the
help of my key
teacher and teacher?
G. What equipment
have I drawn that I
want to share with
my fellow teachers?
