Accents
In general the phonetic accent falls on the next to last syllable. For
example, in the word “matita”, the accent falls on the “i”.
In some words the phonetic accent falls on the last vowel. In this case the
vowel is written with an accent.

“gl” is pronounced like “ll” in the English word “million”.

Double consonants
Some words have double consonants. They are pronounced by slightly
prolonging the sound of the consonant.

Italian dates follow this order: day, month, year (giorno, mese, anno).
Only the first of the month is expressed with the ordinal number primo (first).
The other days of the week are expressed with the cardinal numbers (due, tre,
quattro, etc.)

· Che ore sono? and Che ora è? are both correct and can be used
interchangeably.
· “Half” when telling time is translated with mezzo or mezza. You can use
these interchangeably.
· The article used for all hours is le (le due, le tre, etc.), which is the definite
article “the” used for plural feminine nouns.
