Customer requirement
• Redesign of process for safety purposes
• To incorporate control valve + bypass for slow opening (hammer prevention)
• Piping cut & weld job to be executed during summer 2018 maintenance break
• HABONIM was asked quotation for valves => meeting with YARA’s engineering
• Instead of valve & piping job (cut &weld) HABONIM proposed integrated
system of control valve with by-pass to fit in between existing flanges
⇒ Downtime reduced from 3 weeks to 1 day
⇒ Total project cost divided by 2

into the flare system
=> ammonia being emitted into the atmosphere
=> unsafe work environment

In order to overcome the problem, ORICA decided to upgrade the existing single 3-piece
DN25mm isolation ball valves that were used to isolate the Ammonia flare system, to a dual
safe design
