How to collect data for Troubleshooting

In order to request MAN Diesel and Turbo for troubleshooting advice we want the following
information at each approach:

 SPAF (Engines Parameter File)

 HCU, HPS, Cylinder Events (Depending of issue)
 Event Log
 CoCoS Linerecorder
 SCSU Scope

These are all data which will help to determine the cause of the issue you are facing with the engine.

Please go through the following guides of, how to retrieve all the data and send it to our office by
email.
When each file is collected place everything in a Compressed (Zipped) folder in order to reduce
space. Hereby it should be possible to send through the ships mailing system.

How to compress files:

1: Mark all the files you want to compress into one folder and send them to an Compressed Folder.

2: Rename the folder and it is ready to be forwarded by email.

Export SPAF
1. On the MOP, select the „Admin->Version“ tap.

2. Insert a USB flash drive into the MOP. Press the „Export SPAF“ button and after that “Save”.

3. The SPAF file is now saved on the USB flash drive (it may take some minutes to save).
Export HCU, HPS or Cylinder Events
Export the events individually following the steps below. Please pick the correct Events
corresponding to the concerned failure

1. On the MOP Select the „Maintenance->Troubleshooting“ tap.

2. Insert a USB flash drive into the MOP.

3. Mark the Event that you want to send back for analysis.

4. Press the „Export “-button and after that “Save”.

5. The Event file is now saved on the USB flash drive.

Export Event Log
1. On the MOP, select the „Alarm->Event Log“ tap.

2. Insert a USB flash drive into the MOP. Press the „Export “ button and after that “Save”.

3. The Event Log file is now saved on the USB flash drive (it may take some minutes to save).
Collecting LineRecorder data from CoCoS-EDS
For troubleshooting, linerecorder data is essential for a quick process. We only need linerecorder
files which include the certain failure. Therefore, please carefully select the data following the below
guide and send it back for analysis.

There are two ways to collect the data:

First: To save the linerecorder immediately after an alarm occurred (starting from item 1).

Second: To pick the linerecorder files saved automatically, including the event you want to be
analyzed (starting from item 6).

1. Run the tests and engine maneuverings which should be analyzed by MDT (a test could just
be an event that you want to save for analysis after it happened)

2. Go to the window LINE RECORDER.

 This can be done by pressing the button:
 You can also go to the menu “MONITORING” and then chose
“LINE RECORDER”

 or simply by pressing SHIFT + F8

3. In this view go to the menu and press “SYSTEM” and

“LINE RECORDER DATABASE”
4. Write a text in the Comments area and press “ADD”

5. Note the date and time stamp of the line recording and press OK.
6. Find the line recorder file you want to send and copy it to a USB stick.
The path to the file is:
C:\users\public\man\cocos\eds\”hull number”\linerec\
Chose the file with the date and time you want to send. However notice that the file is saved
with a UTC time stamp and the time shown in CoCoS is the computer local time.
To find the UTC time for corresponding HCU Events or Alarms please see the following
pictures.
When finding a linerecorder file, which has to correspond to a specific alarm or Event follow either
this or next page with screen dumps to find the UTC time that has to correspond to the UTC time
stamp of the linerecorder.

To find UTC time for an Event:

To find UTC time of a previous alarm:
7. Find the ENGINE.EDS file and copy it to the same USB drive as the linerecorder file.
The path to the ENGINE.EDS file is:
C:\users\public\man\cocos\eds\”hull number”\ENGINE.EDS

8. Chose the two files on the USB drive, right click and chose “send to” “compressed (zipped)
folder”

Only forward the Engine.eds when this is special requested

Export SCSU Scope records
The SCSU Scope program is not a requirement for Dual Fuel engines but it is a very helpful tool to
monitor and troubleshoot on the Gas system.

Remember that SCSU Scope has to be opened for each cylinder and should be ARMED to record any
unexpected failures.

1. On the PC, select the Cylinder which caused the Gas Stop. If in doubt do the same with all of them.

2. Insert a USB flash drive into the PC. Press the „Save“ button and then locate the destination you
will store the record.
