External controls An output to activate external actions, for example release fire
doors or stop ventilation.
Alarm device Alarm devices are outputs activated in case of fire, for
example audible or optical alarms such as bells, sirens and
flashlights.
Disconnection A disconnection of a system component such as a zone or a
detector. Prevents fire alarms, fault alarms or control actions
from that unit.
Panel board, PB This is the control panel with alphanumerical display.
Alarm delay A delay before activating alarm device outputs when a fire is
detected. Normally set to 2 minutes (the delay is
programmable).
Alarm transfer output Supervised output indicating that there is at least one fire
alarm in system. Normally used to alert the fire brigade in
onshore installations.
Zone board, ZB Zone board for connection of max 16 conventional detector
loops This board can also be used as 16 input/outputs.
Loop board, LB3 Loop board for connection of 3 addressable detector loops.

outl'_uts. It controls the system communication etc.
Relay board, RB Optional board with 8 programmable relay contacts.
Power board, PB Power supply board.
Warning A disturbance in the system not as dangerous as a fault
condition. This can for instance be a dirty detector or an open
door to a central.
Fault condition A signal that is given by the control panel in the event of a
fault in the system or on one of its components.
Loop A common name for the cable, detectors and manual call
points that are connected with the fire alarm central.
Zone A group of addressable loop units or an entire conventional
zone.
Loop unit Units located on the detector loop such as detectors, manual
call points or short circuit isolators.
MCP Manual call point. An external fue alarm button. Creates a fire
alarm when activated.
Pre-alarm A condition in which the detector senses a certain amount of
danger, but the level of the detected state is not enough to
cause a fue alarm.
Cause/Effect The Cause/Effect program defines how the in- and outputs of
the system should react.

Chapter 2: Testing
Consiliurn recommends that the fire alarm system is tested at least
once a year to assure correct function.
The CS4000 has a special test mode, which makes the testing easier.
Fire alarms from zones not in test mode will be handled normally by
the system.
It is now safe to test each detector, manual call point etc in this fire
zone during two hours. Use suitable testing equipment, available
from Consiliurn.
All alarms will be listed under: Menu/ 7 History/ 1 Fire History List
Heat detectors
Heat detectors are preferably tested with heat detector tester VDT -1,
part. no. 9300, available from Consilium.
• Apply heat to the sensing element until alarm is indicated by
a red indication.
Important:
If other test equipments are used, for example cigarette lighter or
heating gun, make sure not to over-heat the detector by holding the
heat-source to close to the detector. This will damage the detectors,
for example causing the plastic to melt.
Service & Maintenance manual Chapter 1: CS4000 block diagram
Salwico CS4000
4
Smoke detectors
Smoke detectors are preferably tested with test gas equipment Solo
330, available from Consilium.
• Spray test gas on to the detector during 0.5 second. Wait 10
seconds until new gas is sprayed during 1 second. Repeat this
procedure until the detector indicates alarm with a red
indication.
If other test methods are used, make sure not to damage the detector.
Flame detectors
Flame detectors may be tested with an ordinary cigarette lighter.
• Turn up the flame to a height of approximately 5 em. Hold it
in front of the detector at a distance of about 2-5 meters.
Move the lighter slowly during the test to obtain a flickering
flame until alarm is indicated with a red indication.
Fuse fault
Note: Before a fuse is removed, make sure which functions
that will be affected by the removal.
1. Remove a fuse.
2. Verify that the fault is indicated on the control
unit (this may take up to 1 minute).
3. Reinsert the fuse.
4. Reset the fault condition on the control panel.

Battery fault
1. Remove a battery fuse.
2. Verify that the fault is indicated on the control
unit (this may take up to 1 minute).
3. Reinsert the fuse.
4. Reset the fault condition on the control panel.
Earth fault
1. Connect one of the loop cables to earth via a
2, 7k0hm resistor.
2. Verify that the fault is indicated on the control
unit (this may take up to 1 minute).
3. Remove the earth connection.
4. Reset the fault condition on the control panel.
Power supply
Test the back up power supply (emergency 230VAC
or batteries).
Smoke detectors
Clean the detector with a vacuum cleaner or by blowing
high-pressure instrument air on it.
The detector house is cleaned with a damp cloth.
Note: The high-pressure air must be of instrument type
(clean, not containing oil etc.)
Heat detectors
The sensor part does normally not need to be cleaned.
The detector house is cleaned with a damp cloth.
Flame detectors
Clean the protective glass over the sensor by a grease solvent
such as soap or alcohol.
The detector house is cleaned with a damp cloth.

FIRE ALARM CAB INET
Installation Manual Chapter 2: Installation 4
Salwico CS4000
Chapter 2: Installation
The different parts of the CS4000 fire alarm system, the central unit, the
control units, repeaters and the loop units, should first be mechanically
installed. The different loop units are thereafter electrically installed and
set up according to the definition of the loops. The cables must be tested
separately before the loops are connected to the central unit. This
eliminates any problem with the cable and the electrical installation of
the loop units. The installation is completed with the electrical
installation of the central unit and the control unit(s).
Mechanical installation
Install the central unit, the control units, repeaters and the loop units •
according to the drawings. The control unit can be delivered installed in
the central unit or as a separate unit. Separate drawings are delivered
with the system.
Central units
The central and control unit, even the external control and repeater
units, are delivered in cabinets (IP22) for wall or console mounting.
Separate drawings are delivered with the system. The central units shall
be installed indoors in areas with 0- 80% RH non-condensing and
temperatures ranging from ooc to 50°C.
Loop units
A loop unit is a unit that can be connected to a loop or a conventional
zone, i.e. detector, manual call point, address unit, timer etc.
The mechanical installation of the different types of loop and zone units
is described on the data sheets respectively.
Installation Manual Chapter 2: Installation 5
Salwico CS4000
Electrical installation
Cable requirements
The cables for the external system channel to control panels and
repeater units must fulfil the following requirements:
Detector loops
Loop lengths
The length of a loop or a sub-loop depends on the following three
parameters, type of cable, shielded or unshielded cable and power
consumption. A cable is considered to be shielded if the shielded part of
the cable is more than 10% of the total length. Never exceed the
recommended cable lengths mentioned below.
The loop units are divided into three types, depending on their
individual load on the loop.
• All Salwico addressable analogue loop units not listed under "Type 2
or 3"
• SID-38T
• RDJ-2T
• TDT -2 and TDT -2K, rate-of-rise 57°C and rate-of-rise 86°
• CSS3300 rectifier
Installation Manual Chapter 2: Installation 6
Salwico CS4000
• AE-2 and AE-2K, configured as a sprinkler (ID 107, 120, 121, 125
and 126), heat detector (127), door indication (117), manual call
point ( 116) and sub central ( 114).
• AE-2E with separate power supply.
• NS-AUV, NS-AOS-IS, NS-AIN1 ID2.
Note:
Leave at least 10% in spare addresses (evenly distributed among the
intervals between short circuit isolators) for future extensions with new
loop units when calculating the number of loop units.
Example (if only type 1 loop units are used):
254 addresses x 0.9= max 228 loop units/loop.
Detector loops
A loop may contain different types and different numbers of loop units.
The connection to the loop depends on the type of loop unit and the
configuration of your system. Some ofthe loop units are connected
directly to the loop and some via address units. The figures on the next
pages are examples of an addressable detector loop and a conventional
detector zone. For more details about connection, see appendix D or
the data sheet for the actual unit.
Important notice:
• Set the address switch on each loop unit before connecting them to
the loop. If an address unit is used, set its ID switch too. See Setting
the address of the loop units later in this chapter and also
Appendix A and B.
• It is recommended that all short circuit isolators are bypassed before
the loop is tested. Join the cores leading to terminals 2 and 4 and the
cores leading to terminals 1 and 3 by means of a temporary
connector block inside the short circuit isolators.
• Do not remove the dust protection cover from the smoke detectors
until all polluting activities (such as construction work) are finished
and the area has been cleaned.

The system has the below default values for the loop current:
Fault: Normal Alarm 1• Alarm 2•• Fault:
cable break short circuit
conventional loop
f-----+-----+--------+----+------7 current (mA)
0 1 17 58 80
Measure the loop current and adjust the alarm levels (only when necessary)
The current consumption in normal condition may differ due to loop
lengths, cable specification etc. To set the correct alarm levels the loop
current has to be measured.
Use the below procedure to measure the loop current for the following
cases (normally only necessary to measure c):
a) Normal condition
b) Only one smoke detector in alarm
c) Only one manual call point in alarm
1) From the CS4000 control unit, enter Menu/ 6 Service menu/ SLoops
2) Select the Zone Board by using the up- and down arrows.
3) Press OK.
4) Read out the current consumption.
5) When ready, press OK to go back and select the next zone.
All addressable loop units such as detectors, manual call points etc
connected to the loop board LB must be given an address between
1-254 to be operational. The loop units located on the same physical
loop must all have unique addresses.
The address is set by a 8 pole DIP switch located on each addressable
unit. See further address list in appendix A.
Address switches
The address is set by the 8 pole DIP switch. The DIP switch values
follows the binary system.
1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128
The switches numbered 1,2,3,4 and 6 are set to ON position. The values
for these switches are 1+2+4+8+32=47.
Detectors
Important!
Seal the address switch on the detectors with the attached label after the
address has been set.
Address units
In addition to the loop address, address units and 110 units are equipped
with an ID dipswitch. The ID decides the function of the unit.
See appendix B for an ID list.
Addressable Timers
The addressable timers are located on the detector loop in the same way
as any loop unit.
For UR-2/UR-2K type timers, three address DIP switches should be set:
1. The loop address for the timer itself.
2. The first address of the interval of detectors to be disconnected.
3. The last address of the interval of detectors to be disconnected.
For NS-TIMAC only the loop address has to be set.
Please note that timers do not affect the function of the manual call
points or heat detectors.
Terminal layout
Since most systems are customer designed there exists no standard for
how the different boards are to be connected in the system.
See Appendix E for more information.
Control unit
The control units are connected via two separate channels, A and B.
Each channel to be routed in a separate cable, see the block diagram in
chapter 1. Minimum requirement for the cable to control units is
2x2x0.5mm2 twisted pairs.
Power supply
The rectifier board has an in-built change over function between the two
115/230VAC inputs (main and emergency). If there is only one
115/230VAC power supply available, it shall always be connected to
"emergency".
Installation Manual Chapter 3: Verification 16
Salwico CS4000
Chapter 3: Verification
The configuration of the loops must be performed by a person with a
good knowledge of the CS4000 fire system. The operator must have the
authority to work in access level 4. The system is delivered either with a
complete system configuration or a test configuration.
Consilium recommends that the addressable detector loops are tested
before connection to the central unit with the test device SE3000, to
verify the cable status and the addresses of the loop units.
Loops
We assume that there are no communication problems in the system
since the cable has already been tested but each loop has to be verified.
The verification procedure is described below, step by step.
6. One loop is now verified and tested. Continue with the next loop.
Repeat step 3-5 for the rest of the loops.
7. Make a fire detector test of the complete fire alarm system. See
Testing later on in this chapter. Use appropriate test equipment
(smoke detector test gas, heat detector tester) to test each detector
and loop unit. The test is documented on the printer (option)
connected to a central unit, or print out the "Fire alarm history list"
found under: menu/ 7 History/ ] Fire History List. This list contains
the 500 latest fire alarms, but is cleared every time the system is
restarted.
8. We recommend you to use a top to bottom procedure if you have
any problem with the verification of the loop function. Start by
solving the problems that affect the whole loop and thereafter
continue with the problems with each address.
Testing
After installation of the fire alarm system the different parts of the system
shall be tested to assure correct function. The CS4000 has a special test
mode, which makes the testing easier.
Fire alarms from zones not in test mode will be handled normally by the
system.
Note: The tested zone will automatically return to normal operation after
two hours.
It is now safe to test each detector, manual call point etc in this fire zone
during two hours. Use suitable testing equipment.
All alarms will be listed under: menu/ 7 History/ ] Fire History List

Trouble shooting
Polarity fault
One or more loop units are not correctly installed if the measured
voltage is much less then 30 VDC. Proceed as follows to locate the loop
units with polarity fault:
1. Divide the cable in two halves.
2. Locate the polarity fault on one ofthe halves.
3. Divide this half of the cable again into two halves. Continue to
divide the cable into halves until you have found the polarity
fault.
All the section units are correctly installed when the measured voltage is
around 30 VDC.

Loop unit is broken. Replace the loop unit.
Note! Restart the loop by pressing the reset button on the LB3 loop
board after each time you have changed an address. You have to wait
for some minutes after restart to give the loop time to re-boot.
Address error
Use menu/ 6 Service menu/5 Loops, choose the relevant loop and then
press 2=Loops Units to list all found units on the loop. Compare the
found loop units with the ones configured. However, there is a
possibility that two or more loop units with the same address will
answer, which is reported as double address, no answer, bad
communication or as abnormal condition.
Installation Manual Chapter 3: Verification 21
Salwico CS4000
Cable break
No loop units are answering.
- The cable is broken before the first loop unit if no answer is received
on a single fed loop.
- The cable is broken before the first loop unit and after the last loop
unit if the loop is a double fed loop.
Earth fault
The CS4000 control unit will inform about which loop or central that
has an earth fault.
Short circuit
No loop units answers
Search for the short circuits between the central unit and the first short
circuit isolator.
Mute faults
• Mute all the faults simultaneously by pressing the Mute button.
The fault indication stops flashing and turns over to steady yellow. The
fault is put in a fault list under menu/ 1 Fault Alarms/ 1 Fault List.
Reset faults
The cause of the problem must disappear before a fault can be reset.
The faults are reset from the Fault list under menu/ 1 Fault Alarms/ 1
Fault List.
Loop Requirements
The list in part A (Loop configuration) includes all data you need when
configuring the loops. Part 8 (Loop status) is more like a checklist, use
it and follow it point by point. When you have completed this part you
should have filled in, signed and faxed the special document "Address
list/test report" one for each loop in the system. Part C (Central status) is
also a checklist but it deals with the status of the central unit.
Summary
The following document must be filled in and faxed to Consilium
+46- 31 710 78 00 and your local Consilium representative in your
country before commissioning of the system starts:
Smoke detectors
• Smoke detectors shall if possible be installed in the center of the
supervised area or where the smoke most probably rises.
• Keep smoke detectors away from possible causes of unwanted
alarms such as showers, saunas, ovens and toasters.
• The detector shall not be installed behind air ducts etc delaying
the smoke to reach the detector, or near ventilation inlets that
blows smoke away from the detector. Minimum distance from
ventilation inlet is 0.5 m.
• The detector shall not be installed where subject to direct air
flow > 20 m/s.
• Covering area max 74m2 •
• Minimum distance from wall or bulkhead is 0.5 m.
• Maximum distance from wall or bulkhead is 5.5 m, and
maximum distance between two detectors is 11 m.
• In engine spaces, smoke detectors shall have 2m extra cable
slack to enable relocation of the detector.
• In cabins and in lockers the detectors shall be mounted with the
LED of the detector facing the door.
Heat detectors
• Heat detector shall be installed to the best place to protect the
area, mainly in the center of the space and in a place where the
detector works reliably.

Appendix B: ID list
The ID switch must be set on the address unit's type AE and NS-AIN. The ID
defines the function of the unit and type of unit connected to the address unit.
Setting the ID
The ID is set by the 4-pole (NS-AIN type) or 5-pole (AE type) DIP switch
located on the address units. The DIP switch value follows the binary system.

Installation Manual Appendix F 42
Salwico CS4000
The fire detection system shall be installed as a fully addressable system. Any non-addressable initiating device
must be used with an addressing unit to provide an address for that device. Each addressing unit shall be used to
support only one device. Examples of non-addressable initiating devices are the manual call point NS-CPWP and
the UV-flame detector NS-DUV.
A trouble signal must be annunciated by the activation of the Models UR-2K and UR-2KN timers. Timer UR-2K
must be installed in a locker.
The fire control panels (CS4000) must be installed with two sources of external power. The internal battery cannot
be used to satisfy the requirement for a secondary source of power.
