A Detailed lesson plan in Science 7

I. Objectives
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to:
a. define the key terms in describing motion;
b. develop an understanding of the quantity in terms of magnitude and direction,
c. identify the terms by answering the given quantities.

II. Sub-topic
a. Topic: Describing Motion
b. Materials: Laptop, DLP, Stick notes with letters, Learner’s Guide Book
c. Reference: Science – Grade 7, Learner’s Material First Edition

III. Procedure
Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity
A. Preparatory Activity
Good morning class. Good morning sir.
Take your seats. Thank you sir.

Today we move on to our new lesson

which is on motion.
We have here our lesson objectives.
At the end of the lesson, the students
should be able to:
a. define the key terms in describing
motion;
b. develop an understanding of the
quantity in terms of magnitude and
direction,
c. perform an activity in able to
describe motion.

B. Lesson Proper
a. Drill

I have here a toy car now your task is

to observe keenly what I’m going to
perform.
Now as I’m moving the toy car, what
do you observe? The toy car is moving.
Yes, very good.
The toy car change in position.
What else do you observe?
Correct nice.
If the toy car change in position by
moving we now say that the object is The object is in motion.
in what?
Good.

b. Motivation
Moving on.
(The class will be grouped into six
groups)
Now I have here also a set of
scrambled letters on the stick notes
which you are going to form as a (Each groups posted their works)
group, after then a group
representative will come and paste it in
front.

c. Discussion
While we are proceeding let’s try to
check your works.
Now I have here the definition of
terms. Each terms that I’ll be showing
you corresponds to the letters you just
formed.
• A continuous change in position
Starting from the first definition, Who
with respect to a reference point
wants to read the first one? Yes
for a particular time interval.
please.
Simply change in position with respect
with time.

Thank you, now which of these words Motion sir.

you pasted in front jive to the
definition?
• Refers to the length of the entire
Correct.
path that the object travelled.
Next to read? Distance

What now is the term?

Good.
Simply distance is howq far you can • Refers to the shortest distance
travel. between the object’s two
positions, like the distance
Next to read please? between its point of destination. It
is indicated by direction.

Displacement.
What do you think is the term we are
defining?
Correct.

Now for you not to be confused on the

distance and displacement, I have
here an illustration showing their
differences.

(the Teacher explains the drawing)

• Refers to the numerical value of

Next reader? the physical quantity

Good.
It says their it is the numerical value,
Give me an example of numerical 3, 5,19….
value.
Good. meaning any numbers.
• The course or path on which
Next to read. something is moving or pointing.
Direction
What is the word?

An examples of direction are north,

south, left or right.

Now going back to the distance and

displacement we have here another
differences.
(The teacher shows a table
differentiation the two)

• Is a device used to measure the

Next to read. instantaneous speed of a vehicle.
These are important to the drivers
because they need to know how
fast they are going so they know if
they are already driving beyond
the speed limit or not.
Speedometer.

What is the word?

Good.
We have here an example of
speedometer.
(The teacher shows a picture of
speedometer) 60kph
What is the reading in the
speedometer?
Good.

Going back to the definition of

speedometer it says there INSTANTANEOUS SPEED
instantaneous speed? • Refers to the speed of the object
What is these? at a particular instant of time.

Refers to the rate of change in distance

Next reader. with respect to time or simply it is how
fast an object is moving in a period of
time.
Speed.

What is the term?

We have there the formula for speed.

d
Formula: v=
t
v = speed
d = distance
The rate of change of displacement of an
t = time
object in a particular direction or refers to
Example: v = 50 m/s
the rate of change in displacement.
Next definition.
Velocity.

What is the term?

We also have here the formula.
d
Formula: v=
t
v = velocity
d = displacement
t = time
Example: 40 m/s N

What are the differences of speed and

velocity?

• Refers to the rate of change in

velocity of an object with respect
Moving on, Who wants to read the last with time.
one? Acceleration.

What is the term?

We have here also the formula for
acceleration.
v
Formula: a=
t
a = acceleration
v = velocity
t = time
Example: 40𝑚/ s2

d. Generalization

To sum up our lesson for today I have

here a short video regarding our topic.
Participate on the details you see in
the video.

(The teacher shows a video).

IV. Evaluation
Prepare a one-fourth piece of paper and answer the following.
Identify the following quantities.
1. 44m 2. 23m N 3. 66m/s SE 4. 50 m/s2 5. 10m
6.70 m/s2 7. 42m to the East 8. 42 m/s NE 9. 5 m/s 10. 33m

V. Assignment
The students will read on how to compute speed and velocity.
