Look for editorials and columns in some daily newspapers, or research that can relate to the K to 12
curriculum. Read and extract the articles that you have downloaded and fill out the T-diagram below by
writing the strengths and criticisms of the K to 12 curriculum in the Philippines.

STRENGTHS CRITICISMS

Designing Learning Outcomes that mean something and are an effective way to measure
student potential and success is a big challenge. Meeting those learning outcomes and having
solid indicators to prove this, all the while easing the paperwork and the excel sheets of the
teachers have become unthinkable.

HARNESS
The Philippine Basic Education Curriculum enumerates several practices and initiatives on indigenizing
language learning through culture. For each practice, give at least two creative or innovative ways that
you can integrate into the lesson to make your students understand culture through literature. Share your

PRACTICE: Using indigenous aids such as artifacts.


a. Spears-they used in our ancient ancestral,like hunting animals in the forest
b. Boomerang- a curved flat piece of wood that can be thrown so that it will return to the thrower,
traditionally used by Australian Aboriginal people as a hunting weapon.

PRACTICE: Incorporating community resources in teaching --- visit scenic spots, inviting local people as
resource persons, ect.

a.Addiction-
Addiction is defined as a chronic, relapsing disorder characterized by compulsive drug seeking, continued
use despite harmful consequences, and long-lasting changes in the brain. It is considered both a complex
brain disorder and a mental illness.
b.Corruption- is a form of dishonesty or a criminal offense which is undertaken by a person or an
organization which is entrusted with a position of authority, in order to acquire illicit benefits or abuse
power for one's private gain.

a. Black Nazarene- The Black Nazarene is a life-sized image of a dark-skinned, kneeling Jesus Christ
carrying the Cross enshrined in the Minor Basilica of the Black Nazarene in the Quiapo district of
the City of Manila, Philippines.
b. Sinulog festival- Sinulog is held in celebration of one of the country’s most famous historic relics:
the Santo Niño de Cebú. This was the statue of the baby Jesus that was handed to the Rajah
Humabon of Cebu by the Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan in 1521.

PRACTICE: Using the local language of teaching.


a. A home language is the first language we learn to speak and is generally the language of our
parents and community. Sometimes we can have multiple home languages.
b. When learners use their home language to learn another language, their understanding and
performance is likely to improve.
