Question (25 marks)
A solid timber beam, 80 mm wide × 275 mm deep supports a timber deck floor (ignore torsional
buckling), in strength class C22, simply supported 3.0 m long, supports uniformly distributed
permanent (including self-weight of beam) and variable actions of respectively 0.3 kNm-1 and
2.5 kNm-1 . Assume service class 2 and ‘medium-term’ loading class.
