1. Remembrance Day reminds us of the sacrifice made by many


in battle, to make possible the freedom we enjoy today in Australia. Poppies are
sold to raise funds to support families who lost loved ones. If 250,000 poppies
are sold at $2.25 each, how much money is raised through those sales?

2. In rural Australia, rabbits can be a real problem. On Bazza’s farm, a rectangular


paddock measures 800 m x 600 m. It has a rabbit burrow in every 50 square
metres, on average. How many burrows are there in that paddock?

3. Freda can type really quickly on the computer, at 18 words per


minute. Freddie, who types more slowly, can only type at 15 words
per minute. How many more words can Freda type in 15 minutes than
Freddie?

4. Jess bought a book at a bargain shop recently, titled “1,000 Cool Jokes” The
book cost $10. How much per joke does that work out at?

5. Toni bought 3½ dozen free-range eggs, and she paid $15.75 in


total. How much would one dozen eggs have cost? 

6. In a survey last week, it was found that most people wear their jeans
5 times before they wash them again. If Joe’s dad wears his jeans
3 days each week, how many times will the jeans be washed in 4 weeks?

7. There are usually about 80,000 internet searches each second. How many
internet searches does that make in one hour? 

8. In Ben’s school, there are 800 students. 15% of them play tennis,
25% play football, 35% play basketball or netball, and the rest play
soccer. How many play soccer?

9. Filling Jodie’s mum’s car with petrol from empty to full costs $40,
with petrol costing 125 cents per litre. How far can you drive your
car if it uses 8 litres per 100 km?

10. Open-ended Question: Peppa Pig had a party, and


invited some of her piggy friends, and a few emus as well.
There were 60 legs in the farm shed at the party. How many
pigs, and how many emus, may there have been at the party?
Give at least 3 possible answers.
