I. OBJECTIVES
A. Content Standards Statistics and Probability

B. Performance Standards Demonstrate understanding and skill in the effective use of tables, graphs and
statistics in presenting, analyzing and interpreting data, and dealing with
uncertainty; and making predictions about outcomes for everyday problem
solving.

C. Learning Competencies/ Objectives Knowledge:

Write the LC code for each.
 Illustrates the measures of central tendency (mean, median. mode) of
a statistical data. LS3MP-SP-PSF-JHS-23

Calculate the measure of central tendency of ungrouped and grouped

data. LS3MP-SP-PSF-JHS-24

Illustrate the measures of variability (range, average deviation,

variance, standard deviation) of statistical data.
LS3MP-SP-PSF-JHS-25

Skill: Perform the given tasks individually, by pair and by group.

Attitude: Show interest in learning how to solve the measures of central

tendency.

II. CONTENT(Subject Matter) Central Tendency( Mean, Median, Mode & Range)

IV. PROCEDURES
A. Springboard/Motivation (Establishing a purpose Let’s Think About It
for the lesson)
 Learners will answer the following questions below.
1. Get the average score of the test scores below.

2. Which of following children below are in the middle. Circle your

answer.

B. Activity (Review of previous lesson/s or Activity 2: Pre-Test

Presenting the new lesson)
 Learners will answer the pre-test questions using their LAS
worksheets.

JHS: Direction: Give what is asked for in each of the

following items.
1. The following is a list of scores in a random survey on the IQs of 20 sixth
grade students. What is the mean IQ?
2. The following are the monthly salaries of 10 employees from a small
company. Compute for the median salary.

3. A bookstore owner in your barangay wanted to know which of the services

of the store is most popular among the consumers. She recorded the number of
times a service is given in a week. Here are the data she collected:

What is the modal popular service of the bookstore?

4. Find the range of each of the following sets of numbers.

C. Analysis (Presenting examples/instances of the (Mean Median Mode and Range)

new lesson)
 Learners will answer the activity below.

Direction: Find the mean, median, mode and range in each of the sets of
data. Examples are given below.
D. Discussing new concepts and practicing new Class Participation
skills (sub-activity #1)
 Learners will open their module on and answer some questions found
in the modules.

In statistics, a central tendency (or measure of central tendency) is

a central or typical value for a probability distribution. It may also be
called a center or location of the distribution. Colloquially, measures
of central tendency are often called averages.

F. Abstraction (Making generalizations about the Class Participation

lesson)
 What is central tendency?

 Explain what is mean, median, mode and range?

 What are the formula and steps in solving for the mean,
median, mode and range?

 Explain why we need to learn how to solve or get the central

tendency of a given data?
G. Application (Developing mastery) (What Have You Learned?)
JHS: Activity 1: Direction: Find the mean, median, mode and range in each of
the sets of data.
H. Valuing (Finding practical application Ask:
of concepts and skills in daily living)
 How will you use mean, median and mode and range to analyze and
interpret data to solve problems in your daily life?

I. Evaluation (Assessing learning)  Learners will answer the questions using the worksheets.

JHS: Direction: A. The following are the grades of four students in an aptitude
exam composed of five subjects.

Complete the following table using the given data above.

B. Solve the following problems.

1. Jerbeck got the following final grades.
Science 87
English 88
Reading 90
Social studies 93
Home economics 95
Suppose she needs an average of 90 in her six subjects in order to be
included in the honor roll, what should her grade in math be?

2. Jeff and Marie are studying typing. In six speed tests, Jeff was able to record
the following speeds in number of words per minute:
56 55 63 62 49 62
while Marie had the following speeds:
58 63 71 51 59 64

Compare their median speeds. Who is the faster typist?

3. The following frequency distribution table shows the scores of 35 students
in their math test.

What is the mode?

4. The following are the scores of 20 students in a science exam. Find the
range of their scores.

remediation)

V. REMARKS
VI. REFLECTION
A. No. of learners who earned 80% in the
evaluation
B. No. of learners who require additional
activities for remediation
C. Did the remedial lessons work? No. of
learners who have caught up with the
lesson
D. No. of learners who continue to require
remediation
E. Which of my teaching strategies worked
well? Why did these work?
F. What difficulties did I encounter which my
principal or supervisor can help me solve?
G. What innovation or localized materials did
I use/discover which I wish to share with
other teachers?
