A. JOB SET-UP
NOTE: The various materials used in this procedure are quoted and described at the end
of the procedure.
- Mark the center Line on the Leading edge (as per table below and Figure 6f) :
- Position the de-icer by aligning the center Lines and on Lower surface, mark out de-icer
dimensions and add 10 mm (0.4 in.), for bonding of de-icer.
Remove the de-icer, then starting from this area, rub slat to bare metal on an area of
15 mm (0.59 in.) (as per Figure 6h).
- Moderately buff the surface to be bonded with emery cloth, grade 80 until entire
marked-out area is slightly roughened.
- With a cloth, clean and degrease the concerned areas with solvent, material
No. 11-003E as per SRM 51-35-00. Allow the solvent to evaporate at Least one hour.

SERVICE BULLETIN ATR72
- Cover scoured area as soon as possible to protect it from dust until bonding is
performed.
(1) The position of the strip end of chambers, on the upper surface side, with respect to
fasteners (as per Figure 6d).
Normally, the strip end of chambers is marked with a silver marking pencil. If this is
not the case, mark this line before positioning (the chamber closing strip end is visible
to the naked eye with an horizontal beam of light).
(2) The minimum lateral value between the limit of the chamber inflating section and the
edge of the leading edge.
De-icer positioning
- Start by the valve located on the lower surface (as per Figure 6a) and unroll the de-icer
spanwise on the leading edge.
- Align the de-icer center line with the leading edge center line (as per Figure 6j).
- Check that there is a distance of 15 mm minimum (0.59 in.) between the chamber
closing strip end (silver pencil mark) on the upper surface side and the axis of the
fasteners (as per Figure 6 view A).
Location of holes on the de-icer can be easily found by pressing the de-icer opposite
to the holes (hole marks visible to naked eye) (as per Figure 6g).
If the 15 mm minimum (0.59 in.) distance is not respected, move the de-icer until the
15 mm minimum (0.59 in.) distance is obtained.
- Check that there is a distance of 20 mm (0.78 in.) minimum between the end of the
de-icer inflating section (Lateral part) and the edge of the leading edge.
- When the positioning operation is completed, remove the de-icer by rolling it.
Page AI-17

SERVICE BULLETIN ATR72
- Put the de-icer with the valves upwards, on a table covered with a polyethylene film.
- Clean the bonding face of the de-icer with solvent, material No. 11-003E or 11-001
as per SRM 51-35-00 until any trace of talc, duct is eliminated. Repeat this operation.
- Put the de-icer in a dust free environment. Allow to dry for 1 hour before applying the
bonding compound.
Refer to data sheet for use of neoprene cement, material No. 08-018A (Refer to
SRM 51-35-00).
Stir well before use. The cement is ready if it trickles or drips when the stirrer is removed.
Apply one coat of neoprene cement, material No. 08-018A (Refer to SRM 51-35-00) to
aircraft part and to the de-icer without overlapping coats to prevent any extra cement
thickness.
Proceed in the same manner to apply a second coat and allow the following drying times:
Do not apply cement at temperature below 16°C or at humidity rate greater above 70%.
F. BONDING OF DE-ICER
Protect coated area with a teflon sheet, material No. 08-095 (Refer to SRM 51-35-00),
leaving just a 100 mm (3.931 in.) strip uncovered in area where bonding will start.
Page AI-18
ATR. All rights reserved. Confidential and proprietary document.
SERVICE BULLETIN ATR72
G. INSTALLATION OF DE-ICER
To reactivate, use a clean, non-fraying pad, just moistened with solvent, material
No. 11-011 as per SRM 51-35-00 to avoid running. Work over small areas at a time,
approximately 100 mm x 300 mm (3.9311 in x 11.811 in), of coated face of de-icer
and aircraft part.
Use sweeping movements rather than localized rubbing so as not to remove cement.
Wait about ten seconds before bonding de-icer onto aircraft part. Use a roller, code
6451, and thoroughly roll the de-icer chordwise, starting from the edge to the
centerline.
Once the bonding operation has begun, it is advisable (but not obligatory) to connect
the valves to a vacuum source.
Delimit small bonding areas with teflon sheet, material No. 08-095
(Refer to SRM 51-35-00), so that applications of cement do not overlap.
When bonding the de-icer, make sure that no air bubbles are trapped and there are
no wrinkles and twisting.
Should this happen, partially loosen the de-icer by installing solvent, material
No. 11-003E as per SRM 51-35-00 with a burette. Wait a few seconds for the solvent
to evaporate. If the cement adheres properly to both aircraft part and de-icer, bond as
before.
If there is partial removal of neoprene cement from aircraft part or de-icer when
loosening with solvent, apply another coat of cement where needed and wait at least
15 minutes before reactivating with solvent, material No. 11-001 as per
SRM 51-35-00.
Roll de-icer edges thoroughly (non de-icing area) using a steel roller, code 101128.
Bonding will be performed by aligning the de-icer center line with the leading edge
center Line (as per Figure 6f and Figure 6e) and begin bonding from valve area.
Bond the side of de-icer with valves (as per Figure 6b).
Finish by the side opposite to the valves (as per Figure 6j).
Page AI-19

SERVICE BULLETIN ATR72
H. CHECK OF BONDING
At least half an hour after completion of bonding, depressurize de-icer and inspect entire
de-icer surface thoroughly for any presence of non-bonded areas. The overall non-bonded
surfaces must not exceed 13cm2 (2sq. in) per 929 cm2 (144sq. in) of de-icer and no non-
bonded area may be larger than 1.5 cm2 (0.23 sq. in). Furthermore, no non-bonded area
is permitted within 50 mm (1.96) of any of the de-icer edges.
On upper surface, check that there is a distance of 12 mm (0.47 in.) minimum between the
chamber closing strip end (silver pencil mark) and the fasteners (as per Figure 6a).
At lateral ends of Leading edge, check that there is a distance of 18 mm (0.70 in.)
minimum between the de-icer inflating section limit and the leading edge lateral end
(as per Figure 6d).
I. FINISHING
Finishing of edges should not be performed until bonding has been verified.
- Some areas of the de-icer have an extra length necessary for bonding that must be
cut off afterwards. Trimming should be performed carefully with a utility knife.
+ 0.5 mm + 0.02
- Drill holes diameter 13 mm 0 (0.511 in. 0) of leading edge-to-wing
attachment in the de-icer (as per Figure 6 view A) using tools 501639 and 501931
installed on a drilling machine.
Place adhesive tapes 3001S616 over dimensions specified in Figure 7a, 7b and
6h.
Apply two coats of varnish with a brush. Allow to dry for one hour between each
coat.
Page AI-20

SERVICE BULLETIN ATR72
After allowing second coat to dry for one hour, remove adhesive tapes
3001S616.
Again place adhesive tapes 3001S616 over 5 mm (0.211 in.) on either side of the
area coated with varnish, material No. 16-003C (Refer to SRM 51-35-00).
Allow to dry for 4 hours and then remove the adhesive tapes 3001S616.
