Daniela: Good morning professor and colleagues, today we are going to talk about a

sedentary lifestyle, what it is, what causes it, and how to prevent it.

Isa:This topic is very important since sometimes we may be suffering from vascular diseases
caused by being sedentary and we don't know it, for this reason, the objective of our
presentation is that can create awareness in each one of you and that you learn the
importance of this topic.

Isa: Our contents are: What is sedentary? according to academic articles, surveys answered
by 31 people each with their graphs and interviews with the psychologist Carolina Viña, the
nurses Jenny Viviana Caicedo and Carola Garcia; the symptoms of this and how to prevent
a sedentary lifestyle.

Daniela: One has to According to the OMS, a sedentary lifestyle is one of the phenomena
associated with poor health.
According to global studies by the WHO, 23% of adults are sedentary and 81% of
school-age adolescents are not active enough, that is, they are sedentary. Encouraging
people to move is an important strategy to reduce the burden of NCDs (non-communicable
diseases or chronic diseases).
According to the World Organization, young people are the ones at the highest risk of
suffering from NCD diseases.
Leading a lifestyle without physical activity poses health risks.
We also have that a sedentary lifestyle and physical inactivity are prevalent throughout the
world and are associated with various chronic diseases and premature death. Sedentary
behaviors are justified by the growing evidence that these behaviors cause a higher
prevalence of obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease. It has always been known that
physical inactivity is bad for health, but today almost a third of the world's population is
physically inactive, which is a serious public health problem.

What is a sedentary lifestyle?


The attitude of the person who leads a sedentary life. (RAE) in a nutshell a lazy person. A
way of life that the human being takes where he maintains unique frequent positions, a
person who does not exercise, is still and has no movement and that is why he begins to
have vascular diseases.

How does this lifestyle affect health?


Thanks to a sedentary lifestyle, the body can lose muscle mass and residence. Bones lose
certain minerals and consequently weaken. Thus, the body's metabolism is affected,
especially the systems that are responsible for processing fats and sugars. Physical issues
(vascular), back pain, waist pain, arm pain, leg pain.

Is it quite common in students?


Yes, because the students sit for long hours so they are very sedentary

How can we avoid it?


It can be avoided with a good education in comprehensive health. You can still take active
breaks at certain times, stretch, play games, talk, etc.

According to the surveys, we have that most of the people who responded to the survey
know what a sedentary lifestyle is and say that a sedentary lifestyle is a failure that people
have of not performing physical activities and little demand on the body, and most of the
people carry out activity physical sometimes, another group almost always and for this
reason they consider that they are not sedentary.

-The body burns fewer calories. This makes you more likely to gain weight.
-You may lose muscle mass and stamina because you don't use your muscles as much
- Bones weaken and lose some of their mineral content
-Your metabolism may be affected and your body may have more trouble synthesizing fats
and sugars.
-Your immune system may not work as well
-You may have poor blood circulation
-Your body may have more inflammation
-You can develop a hormonal imbalance

how to avoid being sedentary


Firstly, do physical activity for at least two hours a day, either walking, going to the gym, or
playing sports, secondly, do not maintain a static position, that is, constantly changing the
position to avoid musculoskeletal pain, thirdly, take active breaks to change the routine a bit
and also do things that help us maintain well-being to take care of our health and acquire
good habits such as yoga and stretching
