Mission Sept, 2023

Running the race

The next membership class was completed!

The Lord has been adding members to our Pacto de Gracia congregation. This group
was particularly dear to Aletha and me, as the young lady in the center was born and
baptized in our church! And three other young people there present were baptized as
children, and this day made profession of faith. Praise the Lord for His faithfulness.

Please pray for these young people, and all our young people of the church. They
have a tremendous challenge in this modern w.

Finally protected from the rains!
(Costa Rica receives 6 feet of rain a year!)

Physical Education class has

more often been cancelled than
not over the past years. The
CECRE community thanks all
who contributed generous
donations for our LOVELY roof,
complete with lighting for
evening activities (like soccer for
the young people!)

We are very thankful for this

useful, sturdy structure that will
serve many purposes in the
future. We thank all who
remember the Costa Rica
ministry in your prayers and
giving. God is blessing both
things abundantly! Please
keep our personnel and
students in your prayers. We
face many cultural, familial and
personal challenges.
Missions conference - 2023

Our presbytery / classis organized our

first Mission Emphasis Conference.

We hope to make this a yearly event. I

was asked to speak on the Old Testament
foundations for missions, and Daniel Lobo
spoke on the New Testament implications.
It was quite well attended, and we had a
nice time of fellowship. Our Pacto de
Gracia congregation has been challenged
to work with the Cartago church in
reaching out to new places for church
planting. Praise the Lord!

As you can see, our new “William Farel Chapel” is being put to a lot of use! (Top foto) All
during the week our High School uses it for chapel, music and other activities. And weekends it
serves the churches and CLIR with church services, conferences, and many other activities. What
a blessing an infrastructure is! Several of our other churches also need the same. Please pray,
and if the Lord leads you to have interest in helping with a future project, please contact us!

Family news
We are glad to report that Aletha has
completed 3 months of chemotherapy
successfully. She didn’t have even one
day of nausea or vomiting, for which we
are very thankful! The Lord has been so
good to us thus far, and we are looking
forward to Aletha gaining some of her
lost weight, and getting more strength
back (and her hair, which did fall out).
The ladies of the church have been
“helping” me with some meals, since our
deacon / nutritionist has had Aletha on a
completely different diet (which we
believe has been instrumental in the way
she handled the chemo). In the meantime
Aletha has been working on the senior
class trip, which will take the kids to
Edgerton, Minnesota - birthplace of
Aletha! That will be in October.

We have a new dog, “Osa”. Darka had to

be put down, she was sick with cancer.
Below - Osa self-quarantining - the cage
is open!
