CONVERSATIONS BETWEEN NURSE AND PATIENT

DIALOGUE 1

Nurse: Good morning sir, how are you feeling now?

Patient: Good Morning, I am feeling better than before.

Nurse: That’s really great. You look hale and hearty.

Patient: I just want to know that have you changed my medicine because you gave me only two
medicines in the morning.

Nurse: Yes, seeing the steady improvement in your health, we have reduced your dosage. And that
medicine will be given to you only at night.

Patient: I am a touch relieved after hearing this.

Nurse: You have a blood test right now.

Patient: Blood test for what?

Nurse: To check the level your hemoglobin.

Patient: OK and will that be done empty stomach?

Nurse: Yes, it will done empty stomach.

Patient: What will I get in breakfast after the test?


Nurse: Today you will get oats along with a cup of milk.

Patient: That’s so bland and boring. Can’t you jazz it up a little?

Nurse: Hilarious! Don’t worry you will get a healthy and sumptuous lunch.

Patient: That’s perfect.

VOCABULARY

Hale and hearty – strong and healthy

Bland – tasteless, uninteresting

Jazz it up – make something more interesting

Sumptuous – good, splendid


DIALOGUE 2

Nurse Dian : Good morning ms, I’m nurse Dian.

Are you ms. Ayu right?

Patient : Good morning nurse. Yes I am.

Nurse Dian : Okay, how are you feel today miss?

Patient : I feel better now.

Nurse Dian : Hmm, I am glad to hear that. Do you

have any problem?

Patient : Recently I haven’t any problem nurse.

Nurse Dian : Okay, have you had your breakfast ms

Ayu?

Patient : Yes, I have nurse.

Nurse Dian : That’s good miss. Now I would like to

give you intravenous injection of antibiotic

it maybe about 2 until 5 minutes, before I do

the injection process, I would like to check

up your vital sign today, could I?

Patient : Yes of course, please.

Nurse Dian : Can you extend your hand and pull up

your sleeves please? Stay relax when I check

your vital sign miss.

(checking patient’s vital sign).

After finish check up the patient vital sign

Patient : How’s the result nurse?

Nurse Dian : Well, the result is all of your vital

sign are normal enough. That’s good miss.

Now, I would like to inject the antibiotic.

This antibiotic is type of drugs, that can


prevent the bacterial infection. But it has

some side effect such as it can irritated

your gastrointestinal or your gastric and

decrease your appetite. So you can take this

medication after you take your breakfast

lunch or dinner.

Patient : Hmm, I see nurse.

Nurse Dian : Okay, do have any question before?

Patient : Nope. I don’t have any question nurse. But

mmm, nurse can you do it carefully? I am

afraid of needle.

Nurse Dian : Okay miss. Don’t worry about it. I

will do this injection carefully. If you feel

pain, you can take deep breathing okay?

Patient : Hmmm, okay nurse. Thanks.

Finally nurse finished the process of injection.

Nurse Dian : Well, it’s done miss. So how do you

feel right now?

Patient : I feel fine but I feel a little bit pain

while the process of injection nurse.

Nurse Dian : It’s normally miss. Now I’ve to leave

you here. Next two hours later, I will come

here to check your condition. I hope you will

get well soon.

Patient : I hope so nurse. Thank you nurse.

Nurse Dian : Your welcome miss.
