DIGS 001 Tutorial 2
a) My parents told me that secondary school was the most important time in my life. I
learned a lot in secondary school, and I made some good friends too. Secondary school
was much easier for me than college, but sometimes it was very boring. Although
secondary school was important to me, college is even more important because of all the
new freedom I have and the many interesting experiences I have had.
b) When I was in secondary school I had to follow a lot of rules, but I can make my own
choices in college. In secondary school, I used to have the same classes at the same time
every day. I couldn’t choose which classes I wanted or make my own schedule. The first
class was at 7:10 every morning! In college, I choose my own classes and make my own
schedule. I can even take classes in the evening and sleep all morning. Also, my
secondary school had a lot of rules about what clothes you could wear and what you
could do at school. I could never go outside the building during school, wear my favorite
clothes, or even listen to music with headphones. Now I can do all of those things in
college.
c) Both secondary school and college are really important to me. Sometimes I miss my
friends from secondary school, but my new friends are really interesting. Secondary
school was simple because everything was always the same, but college has more choices
and I have to study much harder. Even though college is more difficult, the new lifestyle
and new friends I have are really the best for me.

To show that two things are almost the same, but not totally, you can use
1. alike/similar
2. similar (+ noun)
3. similar to
4. like
5. almost/nearly the same
For example: The Ford has four doors, power steering, and a top speed of 140 kph.

1. The Ford and the Toyota are alike/similar in that they both have four doors.

doors.
3. The Ford is similar to the Toyota because they both have four doors.
4. The Ford is like the Toyota in that they have power steering.
5. The Ford and the Toyota are almost/nearly the same except the Ford is faster.
