HOME VISITATION
NARRATIVE ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT
INTRODUCTION:
The Education Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones said that based on their
observations on the implementation of the Basic Education – Learning Continuity Plan, they
have identified that there is a need to address learning gaps amid the distance learning set-up,
hence Deped Order No. 012, s. 2021 was released. With the release of DepEd Order No. 012,
s.2021, schools were advised to conduct interventions for bridging learning gaps and
intensifying learning gains. In order to bridge the learning gaps and intensify learning gains
in this time of pandemic, where face to face teaching-learning was prohibited, home
visitation activity is very relevant. Moreover, home visits, lead to respectful partnerships
between parents and educators, creating the foundation for understanding and cooperation
between home and school that is vital to every student's success.
Thus, home visitation was conducted to 10 identified learners in Grade Six – Amber
who lagged behind in answering their modules and identified as struggling learners and
readers.
RATIONALE/ OBJECTIVE:
Decades of research show that when parents and teachers work together,
students do better academically and socially. Home visits help make educators more culturally
competent and help effectively engage families leading to academic and social success for the
student. Home visits are effective strategy because they bring parents and teachers together for a
meaningful conversation outside the classroom. Once trust is built a partnership is formed and
strong partnership between parents and school in this time of worldwide educational crisis is
undeniably imperative. Below are objectives of the home visitation from March 1- 12, 2021:
Establish and build rapport with families especially in this new learning modality where “face
– to face” learning is not allowed.
Observe and better understand home and neighborhood environments.
Orient child’s “new normal” class routines and expectations inside their own homes.
Conduct reading assessment and reading remediation when the need arises.
Analyze child’s current learning development.
Solicit family feedback and concerns.
Discuss current parent/child activities and recommend others.
Update families on upcoming program activities.
HIGHLIGHTS:
My home visitation to the learners had paved me towards a better and deeper
understanding of the real situation that these learners experienced academic struggles away
from formal academic environment. It also gave me rare opportunity of reaching out different
types of families but with a commonality of experiencing extreme poverty. I have used
different strategies for the success of the 2 – week Home visitation such as:
1. Relationship-Based-Listening Strategy to families where I came to understand how
and why they skipped retrieving the modules on the scheduled date. Empathizing their
situation, encouraging families’ strengths and expertise, building families’ confidence that
with the strong partnership of parents and school nothing is impossible towards children’s
learning amidst the educational crisis were the things I can offer.
2. Individualized to the Family-each Home visitation is different and based on
families and learners needs.
3. Active Process-An active part in listening and talking with family is essential.
4. Multidimensional Approach – I pay attention to the environmental cues ( most
learners lived in a not so conducive learning environment). It is often the information not
shared, that becomes the most significant when working with families. Most learners if not
all, have younger siblings to attend to (ranging from 2 to 5 years old) while their parents were
working. It definitely would mean, they have no time to answer their modules because they a
have a very important house chores to attend to.
5. Goal Oriented and Outcomes-Focused- I provided accurate written reflection of
conversation through paraphrasing while note taking or summarizing discussion to ensure
that we are on the same page.
