Q2 Lesson Plan Project

Lesson Goals or Learning Targets (Word these as measurable student outcomes.)

All students will review and complete an assessment on long division.

Lesson Objectives or Success Criteria (Word these as student actions, use verbs.)

- Students will participate in small group review of long division

- Students will listen and watch demonstration
- Students will answer questions during group review and when called on.
- Students will complete and pass the quizzes that will be given at the end.
-

CSTP Rationale (Describe the ways your lesson aligns with the six California Standards for the
Teaching Profession)

CSTP 1 Engaging and Supporting All Students in Learning

The purpose of this lesson is to provide extra support to the students that are struggling.
CSTP 2 Creating and Maintaining Effective Environments for Student Learning
I will be implementing small group instruction to give more support to individuals.
CSTP 3 Understanding and Organizing Subject Matter for Student Learning
The group will go small pieces at a time. We will review, practice problems as a group,
practice problems individually, then they will complete an assessment individually.
CSTP 4 Planning Instruction and Designing Learning Experiences for All Students
I worked with my mentor teacher to design a small group lesson for struggling students to
improve their understanding of long division.
CSTP 5 Assessing Students for Learning
Students will complete a quiz individually.
CSTP 6 Developing as a Professional Educator
I am planning and implementing a lesson plan as a high schooler with a goal of being an
educator.

Lesson Plan Content (Written narrative paragraph about the lesson content.)

I will call 4 students aside to the back table with their materials and start my small group
review lesson on long division. I will show them a sheet of pre-printed long division notes and
go over each step in the process. Then I will begin practice problems on the board that we will
complete as a group. I will write one problem at a time, for them to see and follow along on
their own white boards. The first problem, I will walk the group through the steps of the
problem and then as we continue with the rest of the problems, I will have them try to
complete the practice more independently. After we complete the six practice problems, I will
ask them to set their whiteboards aside and I will explain that I will be passing out quizzes for
them to do individually. I will then pass out the quizzes and grade them once they are
complete.

Instructional Procedures

 Focusing Event (Describe how you will get students to focus attention on your teaching.)

I will ask the small group how they are feeling about long division, by a show of
thumbs up for good, in the middle for unsure, and down for not good.

 Instructional Strategies (Click into that link for help describing all instructional methods you will
employ during the lesson. Remember, instructional strategies fall into one or more of the
following broad categories: DIRECT, INDIRECT, EXPERIENTIAL, INTERACTIVE,
INDEPENDENT STUDY)

- Small group direct instruction: Student will listen as I give a brief lecture on long
division notes. I will then give a demonstration on a long division problem.
- Interactive Study: As a group I will work with them on completing a few practice
problems before moving onto independent practice.
- Independent Study: The last two practice problems will be done independently,
with me available for help/questions. Then students will complete a quiz
independently.

 Student Participation (How will you engage students and get them on board to participate?)

I will explain the plan and tell them we will be reviewing notes, practice problems, and
then take a quiz individually. I will emphasize that they are being pulled aside to get
extra support and we want to take our time to ensure they are ready to move on to the
next topic.

 Formative Check (How will you check that all students are involved and engaged in the lesson?

I will do a visual check-in to see their progress on practice problems or the quiz.

 Closure (How will you end the lesson purposefully, with intentionality?)

I will ask the small group to hold up their fingers to show how they feel about long
division and how ready they are for a quiz. 1 being bad, 5 being good.

 Assessment (How will you assess that students achieved the lesson goals or learning targets?)

I will give quizzes for the students to work on independently. There are 6 problems for
them to complete so 4/6 is passing and the goal.
