If you are no longer self-employed or you do not
take active steps to build your business, your
start-up period could be ended.

If you do not attend a meeting, your start-up

period could be ended and a sanction may be
applied to your claim.

When your start-up period ends if you are still gainfully

self-employed, your Universal Credit award will be
calculated using a Minimum Income Floor. More
information about the Minimum Income Floor can be
found on the ‘UCD5’ leaflet which is in your journal.

What happens next

You still need to report your self-employed income and

expenses to us on the last day of each assessment
period. For you this will be the 10th of each month.

This is so we can work out how much Universal Credit

we need to pay you. You need to do this even if you
have no income.

If you do not tell us your self-employed earnings

at the end of your assessment period, your
Universal Credit payment may be delayed or
stopped.

How to report your self-employed earnings

You should report your income online by completing the

‘report your income and expenses’ to-do on your
Universal Credit account.

Details of what income to report and the rules on

permitted expenses can be found on the ‘UCD5’ leaflet
which is in your journal.

If you’re not able to tell us online you can call us using

the number at the top of this letter.
