3) How you would you determine if a metal/Object is a permanent magnet? Outline your method with
sketches. (5 marks)

2. Technology subject specialist has discovered that teachers are refraining from teaching LOGIC
gates in grade 8 and 9 Technology. You are requested to facilitate a workshop that will introduce
Logic gates with TWO inputs. You need to focus on a LOGIC with series combinations (i.e.,
OR and AND gates). Clearly show how you would determine the number of combinations, the
symbol of the LOGIC gate and the output of the series combination with TWO inputs.
(25 Marks)
2. A piston has a radius of 20mm and the pressure in the cylinder is 4N𝑚−2. Calculate the force
output from the cylinder. (5 Marks)
ii. What force must be applied to the smaller piston to exert a force of 5000N on the larger
piston? (4 Marks)
4. The diagram below (Figure 1), shows a hydraulic braking system used on a motor car.
i. Identify two subsystems in the hydraulic braking system shown in Figure 1. (2 Marks)
ii. Explain how these two subsystems work together in a hydraulic brake system. (4 Marks)
