[TURNING TRIALS INTO TRIUMPH

TEXT: JAMES 1:2-8

Bishop Dr. Julius Czar Daoa

Introduction:
 Tayo po ay nasa second installment na ng ating brand-new series entitled, WAKE-UP CALL.
 Are you experiencing an event that alerts you and makes you realize that you must
do something to change a situation?
And suddenly narealize mo na
kailangan mo na pala ayusin.
Kaya nga wake up call eh Kasi you need to do something na baka may mga bagay na
Hindi mo na nagagawa.
 Perhaps you have seen or heard this quotation: "When life throws you a lemon, make
lemonade!"
 You need to turn them into something positive or desirable.
 It is easier to smile at that statement than to practice it, but the basic philosophy is sound. In
fact, it is biblical.
practice.
 Throughout the Bible are people who turned defeat into victory and trial into triumph. Instead of
being victims, they became victors.
 JAMES 1:2-8
 2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because
you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. 4 Let perseverance finish its work
so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you
should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. 6
But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of
the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.7 That person should not expect to receive anything from
the Lord. 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. NIV
 Join me in our message entitled, TURNING TRIALS INTO TRIUMPH.
 How to turn trials into triumph?

1. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING TO “ACCOUNT” (vv. 2-3)

2
 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, 3 knowing that the testing of
your faith produces patience. NKJV
 The key word is count. It is a financial term, and it means "to account."
 GK hegeomai; to lead, i.e. command (with official authority), account, consider
 We must notice what James does NOT say. He doesn't command Christians to "feel happy" when
trials come. He tells us to "call it" joyful, to label it as a thing worth rejoicing over.
 FIRST, TRIALS MUST BE COUNTED AS PURPOSEFUL (v. 2).
2
 My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials,
 To count it all joy when we face trials, we must evaluate the difficulties in life with eyes of faith
and see them in light of God’s good purpose.
2
 Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds,… NIV
-Why? you know church the more na matindi ang battle, the more na mas matindi ang victory
-the more na mas matindi ang trials the more na mas matindi ang blessing
That’s why you need to be joyful
 HOW?
 SECOND, TESTING MUST BE COUNTED AS PRODUCER (v.3).
 3 knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience. NKJV
 The testing of faith develops perseverance (tiyaga.)
 Know that the testing of faith develops perseverance.
 So, when trials come, immediately give thanks to the Lord and adopt a joyful attitude. (Lord
thankyou!!! Kasi naniniwala ako sayo kahit gaano man katindi ang trial na to mas naniniwala
ako sa pagpapala mo.) Do not pretend; do not try self-hypnosis; simply look at trials through
the eyes of faith. Self-hypnosis doesn’t help you find a sense of calm
 Outlook determines outcome; to end with joy, begin with joy.
 God wants to make us patient because that is the key to every other blessing.

 How to turn trials into triumph? 1. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING TO “ACCOUNT”.
 FIRST, TRIALS MUST BE COUNTED AS PURPOSEFUL (v. 2).
 SECOND, TESTING MUST BE COUNTED AS PRODUCER (v.3).
 "But how," we may ask, "is it possible to rejoice in the midst of trials?" The second imperative
explains this.

2. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING TO “ALLOW” (v. 4).

 4 But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
NJKV
 GK echō - to have, be affected by
 FIRST, ALLOW PERSEVERANCE TO WORK IN YOU (v. 4a).
4
 If you let that patience work in you, the end result will be good. You will be mature
and complete. You will be all that God wants you to be. ERV
Allow trials to happen.

pagdaanan ito, kapag may trial be rejoice.

 Technically, whether you like it or not darating at darating ang mga pagsubok katulad ng sinabi
sa verse 2. But iba yung dumating tapos iniiwasan at dini-deny at iba rin yung dumating tapos
hinaharap at pinagdadaanan.
 Bago mo pakinabangan ang pagsubok, tanggapin mo muna!
 SECOND, ALLOW PERSEVERANCE TO WORK OUT YOUR MATURITY (v. 4b).
 4 Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not
lacking anything. NIV
 Maturity is the finished product of trials.
 Trials rightly used help us to mature. In the Bible, patience is not a passive acceptance of
circumstances. It is a courageous perseverance in the face of suffering and difficulty.
 Immature people are always impatient; (Hindi Marunong mag-antay) mature people are
patient and persistent. Impatience and unbelief usually go together, just as faith and
patience do.
 God's goal for our lives is maturity.
 It would be a tragedy if our children remained little babies. (Gusto mo Nanghihingi sayo ng
gatas, 34 years old na)We enjoy watching them mature, even though maturity brings
dangers as well as delights. Kaya ingat lang.
 4 If you let that patience work in you, the end result will be good. You will be mature
and complete. You will be all that God wants you to be. ERV
 God will build your character before He will promote you. (Baka kaya nandyan
 God spent twenty-five years working in Abraham before He could give him his promised son.
 God worked thirteen years in Joseph's life, putting him into "various testings" before He could
put him on the throne of Egypt.
 God spent eighty years preparing Moses for forty years of service.

 Our Lord took three years mentoring His disciples, building their character.

 4 If you let that patience work in you, the end result will be good. You will be mature
and complete. You will be all that God wants you to be. ERV
 Allow “patience” to finish its work. Payagan mo na s’ya. Pasensya pa. Ibig sabihin, tiaga pa!
 How to turn trials into triumph? 2. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING TO “ALLOW” (v. 4).
 FIRST, ALLOW PERSEVERANCE TO WORK IN YOU (v. 4a).
 SECOND, ALLOW PERSEVERANCE TO WORK OUT YOUR MATURITY (v. 4b).
3. THERE MUST BE SOMETHING TO “ASK” (vv. 5-8)
5
 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding
fault, and it will be given to you.
 6 But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a
wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind.
 7 That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord.
 8 Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do. NIV
 During difficult trials, James taught us “what to ask” and “how to ask”.
 FIRST, WHAT TO ASK? (v. 5)
 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without
finding fault, and it will be given to you.
 The people to whom James wrote had problems with their praying (James 4:1-3; 5:13-
18).
 When we are going through God-ordained difficulties, what should we pray about? James
gives the answer: ask God for wisdom. (Kapag magulo ask God, kapag hirap ask God, kapag
pagod ask God, kapag nasasaktan Ask God Kasi mas alam ni Lord Yung nga Bagay na
Akala mo alam mo na)
 James has a great deal to say about wisdom (James 1:5; 3:13-18). The Jewish people were
lovers of wisdom, as the Book of Proverbs gives evidence.
 Wisdom is the right use of knowledge. All of us know people who are educated fools: they
have brilliant academic records, but they cannot make the simplest decisions in life.
 SECOND, HOW TO ASK? (vv. 6-8)
 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea
driven and tossed by the wind. 7 For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything
from the Lord; 8 he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways. NKJV
 James not only explained what to ask for (wisdom), but he also described how to ask. We
are to ask in faith.
 Why do we need wisdom when we are going through trials? Wisdom helps us understand
how to use these circumstances for our good and God's glory.
