Liberty is growth

Talking about liberty; what it is actually to be exact? A noun? Or an object? Or simply an idea
that indicate we need more freedom in our lives? There is more to just a fought-over freedom on
the surface. As we all know, liberty as stated from google is the state of being free within society
from oppressive restrictions imposed by authorities on one’s way of life, behaviour or political views.
Well, in my case i would like to share how liberty affected the growth of my life’s journey.

Growing up, I don’t always get to have everything I wanted. For example, I never get to enrol
into any musical instrument classes as my mother thought being academically successful is a much
better target to reach to .not that I opposed it though. This situation just proved that I was deprived
of liberty, that I wasn’t allowed to make my own decisions and lacked communication between us as
a mother and daughter. In addition, I thought that I could liberate myself and probably be able to
achieve something worth to be proud off. Perhaps one day when I am mature enough I would be
able to pursue a musical career as a side gig. Music has always been my passion

Frankly speaking, it truly depends on myself sometimes on whether I really understand the
notion of liberty. Going through major changes as a normal human being, we undergo multiple
trainings in life to prepare for something unexpected to happen. Everyone is imprisoned inside their
own minds by their own thinking and this leads to us trying new things, wanting to make changes. A
big one and that is prone to making big mistakes as well. Therefore I do believe I should be given the
liberty to make my own mistakes, learn from it and ultimately grow as a better person. Nevertheless
I have been restricted of many things and I am really looking forward to live separately from my
parents so that I could take charge of my own life one day.

However there is a side of liberty that I am really thankful for, that has helped me to lead an
eventful life so far. The independence that Malaysia has achieved for the past 65 years has given us
many opportunities and personally I have enjoyed a meaningful life with my parents and my siblings,
a fun time during primary school, a tough but exciting time at secondary school and perhaps a
colourful and joyous experience as a form 6 students. Witnessing different parts of the world that
are currently experiencing trying times such as war and poverty, I feel truly lucky and blessed to be
in Malaysia where I can reach my fullest potential, lead a normal and meaningful life. Such freedom
and liberty that we are experiencing is often taken for granted. Therefore we should treasure it more
and do our best in our lives in realizing of goals.
To conclude, as constricting or as restrictive my surrounding can possibly be sometimes,
liberty is definitely something that cannot be abused, even at an individual level. Boundaries are
necessary and they are meant to act as a limiter or a saver from people falling into multitude of
hiccups and problems in life. One could enjoy liberty but must be sure not to go overboard in
utilising it. I myself will make sure that I would enjoy my freedom to do things whenever and
wherever and cannot wait to reach my adult stage.
