Examiner: Capt. Nikhil (Online exam)

Time: 10:00-11:30

(Actual exam time 10:20-10:45)

Result: Passed

(As usual, start with introduction. What is your current rank? Which company did you sail? Have you
completed simulator exam?)

You are a master on a vessel navigating in a narrow channel. What rule will you apply?

Explain me in detail.

You are a master on a vessel constrained by her draught. You saw a vessel right ahead. (He did not
tell me how she is heading. I asked him but he said he won’t tell. )

She is not altering and risk of collision exists. What is your action?
Will you alter as per Rule-14?

If yes, which rule says you need to alter?

If no, why don’t you alter?

What does it mean constraint by her draught apart from ROR definition?

What action will you take if she is still not altering and coming closer?

Now, in this case, you have 4 knots current from astern.

What is your action?

What do you mean by take all way off?

If pilot give full astern during berthing, can you say that it is also take all way off?

How many shapes are there for safe water mark?

What colour? Where is it normally used?

You are a master on a ship and your vessel completed a long sea passage, and see a special mark,
what will you do?

Now, you see an another special mark with different shape on the way to the port. What will you do?

What’s the difference between the first buoy and the second buoy?

Now, you see this in Region-B. What’s the difference?

Are you sure with your answer?

Suddenly, he said he’s gonna stop here and I passed.

(( Short exam but, at the end, he did mention that report on the first attempt was pretty good and
almost all topics were already covered.

He also mentioned that he didn’t want to waste time asking lights and shapes after hearing my
answers about Rule-9 at the beginning. ))
