LAS- 5-6 Quarter 2

Background Information for Learners:

What is the importance of organizing fitness event for a

target health issue or concern?

Events allow gyms, studios, and health clubs to think of

creative ways to engage with members and the local community.
Whether the aim is to boost membership sales, increase the
sense of community, or engage current members, events can help
you to meet your goal.

Organize for Fitness and Health!

Organizing a sports event provides enrichment among the

younger generation nowadays where most of them engage in the
use of gadgets, computers and other physically immovable
activities. However, organizing the sports event needs to target
the health issue or concern to meet its purpose and to achieve its
learning outcomes.

Domains of Physical Activity

Physical activities are often classified into domains that

reflect the purpose of the activity. A common four-category
classification is:

1. Occupational (work-related)

2. Domestic (housework, yard work, physically-active child care,

chores)

3
3. Transportation (walking or bicycling for the purposes of going
somewhere)

4. Leisure-time (discretionary or recreational time for hobbies,

sports, and exercise).

Benefits of physical activity

Among other things, physical activity helps with the following:

 Preventing chronic illnesses such as cancer, type 2

diabetes and heart diseases
 Improving attention, concentration and other functions of
the brain
 Maintaining good mental health
 Improving sleep
 Lowering stress
 Reducing smoking

Thus, regular physical activity is an effective way of preventing

many health risks at all ages.

Regular physical activity has the following benefits for adults and
seniors:

 Slows the development of atherosclerosis, a degenerative

disease of the blood vessels
 Reduces risk of complications after a heart attack
 Delays the possible occurrence of hypertension (high
blood pressure)
 Helps reduce symptoms of arthritis
 Strengthens bones
 Helps maintain good muscle mass
 Develops balance, which reduces the risk of falls and
helps prevent fractures
 Helps prolong autonomy

4
Tips for choosing a physical activity

Try to choose an activity you enjoy and that suits your lifestyle.
Suggestions include:

 Choose an indoor activity if you are bothered by weather

extremes such as heat or cold.
 Enjoyment is the key to sticking to an exercise plan.
Choose an activity you enjoy, not one you think is ‘good
for you’.
 Think back. Did you enjoy a particular physical activity
as a child, such as cycling or basketball? If so, give that
activity another go.
 Keep your budget in mind. Some physical activities, such
as skiing or sailing, can require a big financial
investment.
5
 Be realistic about your current health and level of fitness.
If you are a beginner, the physical demands of certain
activities (such as running) may be too much at first.
Choose a gentler alternative and work your way up.

Identify your style of physical activity

 Do you like things organised or prefer a more casual

approach? Do you like to do things on your own or to be
part of a group-based activity?

Some issues you may like to consider include:

 Exercising alone – are you self-motivated? If so, this is a

good option, especially if your busy schedule prevents
you from planning a regular time to be active every day.
 Training buddy – you may be more likely to commit to a
physical activity routine if you are doing it with someone
else, because you don’t want to let your training buddy
down.
 Team sports and group physical activity programs –
organized activities offer the chance to widen your social
circle.
 Mixing it up – some people like to combine two or three
options. For example, you may choose to exercise alone
on two or three days of the week, and train with a buddy
or participate in a team sport on a couple of the other
days.

6
Physical activity – decide on your health goals

While any type of physical activity is good for you, different

physical activities offer different results. Deciding your health
goals will steer you towards the right intensity of activity for you.

For example, weight-bearing activities such as walking, running,

weight training or cycling are good choices for weight
management because they help burn kilo joules.

How to organize fitness event for a target health issue or

concern?
1. Set the objectives for your case. What do you want to
achieve? what do you want the people concerned to feel?
2. Establish a theme that suits your goals.
3. Find the best date , time and place for your case. Figure
out the number of people who will be involved.
4. Identify what you want to have during the event. Are you
going to havemini games, huh? Will you like to offer the
prizes? Do you want to make a lucky draw? Is there going to be a
segment on the photo booth? Are you hosting celebrities? Is
there going to be a boarding fee? Can I set up a medical /
emergency team? Are you going to rent out equipment?
5. Knowing the number of people and events would have an
effect on your budget. Place your budget in line with your
initial strategy. Change the budget or the events so that all is
perfect
6. When you have completed the budget and tasks, you will
start to finalize the program as well
7. Have a marketing / publicity strategy to attract attention
to your event.

7
Benefits of participating in an organized event

 Positive peer pressure

 Exercise with purpose. ...
 Challenge your fitness. ...
