TEMPORARY DRIVER & LOGISTICS ASSISTANT

Reports To: Training Manager (TM) & Training Logistics Coordinator (TLC)

Coordinates with: TM, (TLC) and Housing Coordinator (HC)

Duty station: Training Center in Namaacha

BACKGROUND

The Peace Corps (PC) is an independent United States Government agency which collaborates with
the Mozambican Government to provide Volunteers in areas such as health and education. Prior to
their placement in communities and schools, trainees participate in a 11 week pre-service training
program (PST) that provides them with the basis for their service in Mozambique. The PST consists of
learning Portuguese language, local language, Mozambican culture, technical training, orientation to
health/safety issues in Mozambique, community integration and development, and living with
Mozambican host families.

BASIC FUNCTION

This position is based in Namaacha. Under the immediate Supervision of Training Logistics Coordinator
and Training Manager . The Driver/Logistics Assistant will transport staff, PCVs and PCTs to and in
Namaacha on a daily basis. S/he assures that vehicles are properly maintained and operated according
to Peace Corps and USG guidelines and to manufacturer specifications. As an important member of the
Peace Corps training team, the PST Driver and Logistics Assistant is responsible for logistical support
related to all training events, including the preparation of events, training hub locations, and houses for
Trainee homestay families, and procurement and inventory of supplies, books, furniture and equipment.
S/he will perform other logistical duties as stated below. This is a temporary assignment for the
contracted period only.

Duty Station: Namaacha, Mozambique

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Driving
• Provides transportation for staff to/from the Namaacha office, within Namaacha, and to other
destinations as required.
• Performs checks of the vehicle in accordance with Peace Corps requirements. Ensures vehicle
logs are accurately maintained and vehicle is kept clean inside and out.
• Notifies General Services Officer about upcoming required maintenance check-ups and
problems.
• Ensures safety of the vehicle from vandalism and theft and drives vehicle throughout
Mozambique as directed by the supervisor.
• Provides driving services in a courteous, timely and safe manner in accordance with all
Mozambican traffic regulations.
• Reports all traffic incidents to the General Services Manager and Training Manager.
• Ensures that all individuals in the vehicle occupying seats are using safety belts before moving
the vehicle.
• Ensures that non-PC passengers traveling in the vehicle for official reasons complete the
Passenger Liability Waiver.
• Completes the Daily Vehicle log in accordance with Manual Section 527.
• Performs other tasks as assigned by the General Service Office (GSO) or Training Manager,
including back-up support for other staff members, based in Peace Corps/Mozambique Maputo
office.
• Performs maintenance checks on generator at the Namaacha office.
• Prepares and sends to GSM the Fuel & Vehicle Maintenance Report on Weekly basis.

Logistics
• Provides assistance in locating, purchasing, moving, loading and unloading, cleaning and sorting
expendable and non-expendable equipment for the Namaacha office and training hubs.
• Supports the distribution of materials between training hubs (library, technical equipment,
housing materials for homestays).
• Provides assistance with the organization of material necessary for language classes and
technical sessions; ensures that equipment is distributed where the classes will take place.
• Be responsible for the Sound System assembly and disassembly where necessary.
• Provides support to Namaacha office and PST staff during emergencies and all events during the
training program. Be available for any urgent requests in Namaacha as well as in Maputo (day or
night).
• Supports logistics in the control of cleaning staff, guards and security.
• Performs other services as requested by staff to maintain the smooth, safe and efficient
operation of the Peace Corps program and particularly PST.

Other Duties
• Work with other staff to ensure that libraries and hubs are ready for the daily sections.
• Perform any other tasks as required.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES

• Completion of Secondary School Education


• Minimum of 5 years’ experience as a chauffeur driver.
• Minimum of 3 years’ experience with logistics support to events, procurement and inventory of
supplies, furniture and equipment.
• Valid Mozambican Professional driver’s license for a minimum of 5 years and a clean driving.
record. Ability to pass a driving test and medical certification.
• Fluency in written and spoken Portuguese.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ABILITIES

• Prior experience working with international development organizations.


• Fluent in English.
