Background

It has been observed that learners lack knowledge on the effects of poor diet. This has resulted in
malnutrition among learners in our community. Therefore you will collect data on how to overcome
malnutrition.

The CALA

The CALA has two separate parts, Part A and B. You need to complete both parts.

Part A
- Research on the nutrients which makeup a balanced diet
- Identify locally available foods for each of the nutrients
- Collect samples of locally available foods that gives these nutrients

Part B- 30 marks

- Using the information in Part A, list and explain the food that gives us a balanced diet.
-Gather and describe the foods that contains the nutrients of a balanced diet.
-Prepare a sample of food with all the nutrients of a balanced diet.

CALA Tips

- As you carry out your research, remember to write notes and establish a diary, use ICT tools or
make recordings.
- You can use different materials like manilla,markers, glue, dried foods,plastic,sellotape and
stapler.
- You can also make use of resource persons in your community.

By the end of the cala ,learners should be able to:
- Acquire knowledge and understanding of the health and safety aspects of Physical
Education ,Sports and Wellness Aspects.
- Describe the ways that lead to a healthy life style
- Meet the deadline 1July 2021

Assessement Procedure

-This cala will be assessed out of 50


- Submit a write up
- identification of the food which contains the nutrients of a balanced diet.
- Showing evidence of food samples that come up with a balanced diet..
