ABSTRACT
As the global population ages, there is an increasing need for innovative solutions to
address the challenges associated with elderly care. Falls among the elderly are a
significant concern, often leading to severe consequences such as injuries and prolonged
hospitalizations. In response to this, our project introduces an advanced IoT-based Fall
Detection and Alert with Airbag Trigger System for Bike Drivers Using Neckband with
Airbag tailored to enhance the safety and well-being of the elderly population.
The proposed system integrates state-of-the-art sensor technologies, including
accelerometers and gyroscopes, into wearable devices. These devices are seamlessly
connected to a centralized Internet of Things (IoT) platform, which continuously
monitors and analyzes the motion patterns of the elderly individuals. Machine learning
algorithms are employed to discern normal activities from potential fall incidents with a
high degree of accuracy.
Upon detecting a fall event, the system triggers an immediate alert through multiple
channels, such as smartphone notifications, text messages, and automated calls.
Emergency contacts, including healthcare providers and family members, receive real-
time information regarding the fall incident, enabling swift response and timely medical
assistance.
A distinctive feature of this system is the incorporation of an airbag mechanism within
the wearable device. Upon fall detection, the airbag inflates rapidly, creating a protective
cushion around the wearer to reduce the impact force and minimize the risk of injury. The
airbag system is designed to be lightweight, unobtrusive, and easily wearable, ensuring
user comfort and compliance.
These sensors work collaboratively to identify abnormal motions indicative of a fall.
Upon detection of a fall, the IoT-enabled system triggers a rapid inflation mechanism,
deploying an airbag within milliseconds to cushion the rider's head and other body parts
to reduce the risk of severe injuries. This platform facilitates seamless connectivity
between the Bike Driving person Neckband and a dedicated mobile application, allowing
for instant notifications to emergency contacts and relevant authorities. The application
also provides detailed information about the incident, including the location of the fall,
enabling swift response times for medical assistance.
