Hidden Deep Review Guide

Scope & Content:

This review version contains the following parts of the game to get an insight on what to
expect:
● 8 out of 10 Levels Expedition/Story Mode
○ 6 out 8 different enemies
● 4 Challenge Modes, sharing 3 Maps:
○ find the data disk
○ clear the area
○ maintain reactors
○ escape the sector (Co-Op only)
■ Challenge Maps have preset (leaderboard) or randomized seeds,
which determine the placements of items (like mission objectives) and
monsters
● Co-Op Mode as option for Challenge Modes. Currently split-Screen only, online via
Steam remote play feature.
● Playing with Gamepad is currently recommended only for Co-Op. The goal is to have
it fully available at launch, but we are still tackling some issues.

General Info:
Hidden Deep is developed by the one-man-studio Cogwheel Software and published by
Daedalic Entertainment. On launch, there will be the first segments of the handcrafted
experience named ‘Expedition', which can be regarded as the story mode - it will unfold over
the course of Early Access. Additionally there is the replayable Challenge Mode which offers
different scenarios (for example ‘find the data disc’ or ‘clean the sector’), which in turn can be
modified in terms of difficulty (amount of player lives and enemies) and layout. On top there
is also the local split screen co-op (playable online over the Steam remote play together
feature).

Hints and Known Issues:

When the current Playtest/Beta or one of the former demos were played before, we strongly
advise a clean reinstall and to delete the folder [OS drive]:\Users\[YOUR
USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Daedalic Entertainment GmbH\Hidden Deep before starting a
new game. Furthermore here are some useful bits of knowledge and known issues
regarding this version:

● Info like door codes and mission objectives are saved in the map overlay [M].
● You can’t reload while dangling from a rope, this is by design.
● Swimming needs some practice compared to running, we’d propose to make yourself
familiar with it while being close to the surface before going too deep. ‘up’ is used as
a forward vector and left/right lets you swim up and down.
● Wall mounted log panels have to be navigated by [WASD], [Enter] & [ESC].
● Keypads can be used either by [mouse] or [numpad].
● Medkits are very new to the game and can be consumed via [9] after taking some
damage - no UI item element yet.
● The crane cages that are directly connected to the cables can be magnetically
attached to the metal protrusion at the respective tunnel entrances via [spacebar] -
helpful to not crash into the pit. The active magnet is signaled by a red dot on top of
the cage.
● Cranes without an operator cabin get operated by bringing an engineer close and
holding the corresponding button.
● To use the ‘Rope’ of the Scouts you have to stand close to the edge where you want
to drop the rope.
● Use the plasma torch by holding down [LMB].
● Repeated tabbing out of the game can lead to Access Violation crashes.
● Co-op is playable online via Steam remote play at this stage, native multiplayer is
planned for later during Early Access.
● If you have multiple characters available, you can choose them via [numpad 1-x].
● The game currently only runs in fullscreen, windowed modes will be available soon.
● We highly recommend running the game on 1920x1080 and 60 Hz.
● If the ‘back’ button is missing somewhere in the menus, use [ESC].
● If vehicles get parked too close to a wall, they cannot be entered again.
● If in rare cases the gamepad will continuously be selected as primary input by the
game, please exit the game, delete the config.dat in [OS drive]:\Users\[YOUR
USERNAME]\AppData\Local\Daedalic Entertainment GmbH\Hidden Deep and
restart the game.
● If in rare cases the mission objectives won’t update, please restart the level.
● Your game progress is only saved at begin of a level, no intermediate autosaves (yet)
● Localization QA is still ongoing, so certain parts of the game may occur not
translated.
● Small bugs and glitches may appear due to the EA state of the game.

Using Steam Remote Play for Local Co-op

To assist you with potential troubleshooting to play the local co-op mode via the Steam
Remote play feature, we collected some findings that may help. Due to the beta state of the
game we are still working out some kinks and dents in the mechanics where Steam remote
play and game code interact, so this will not reflect the final state of this feature (where we
aim for native multiplayer later on).
● Ideally the host and the guest have the same gamepad model (or at least
manufacturer) at hand
● If the gamepad is recognized by the steam overlay but won’t work in-game, you can
try to assign the generic gamepad template to your gamepad. More details on how to
do that can be found here:
https://partner.steamgames.com/doc/features/steam_controller/getting_started_for_pl
ayers
● The ideal sequence would be:
○ Start the game into the main menu.
○ Invite guest.
○ Navigate to local co-op mode in the main menu.
○ Assign input as desired.
