up to required Crust Level with pavement materials

kerb bottom level with M-20grade concrete minimum depth of
450mm thick up to the width of 1Mtr,
3. Kerb foundation concrete
4. Laying of PCC over the existing road, as per the Scope.
5. Laying of kerb.
6. PCC balance layer.
7. Flushing upto PCC top in the widened areas with DBM I s t layer.
8. Laying of DBM for full carriageway width – 50mm.

6.0 Construction Method:

The approved level data approved FRL will be plotted on cross sections
and submitted to the Engineer for finalizing design of profile corrective
coarse for the stretch.

The average thickness will be calculated from the difference between

FRL & Existing BT surface. The final average thickness will be arrived
after deducting 50mm BC and 50mm DBM as per the treatment schedule
given in DPR drawings.

Based on the final average thickness, the following treatment will be

applied for the Profile Corrective Coarse.

a. The Profile Corrective Coarse upto 40 mm average thicknesses

will be laid with Dense Bituminous Macadam only.
b. The Profile Corrective Coarse will be laid with Bituminous
Macadam for average thickness more than 40mm and upto
150mm.
c. If the Profile Corrective Coarse average thickness is more than
150mm, the existing bituminous surface will be removed
completely and subsequent road crust layer will be laid with wet
mix macadam.
Where existing pavement is to be overlayed with a granular base of less
than 500mm, total thickness will be scarified in accordance with sub-
clause 501.8.3.2. Where the existing pavement contains multiple
bituminous layers, the scarification will be to the underside of the lowest
bituminous layer. The contractor will verify that all bituminous layers
have been removed using appropriate methods as approved by the
Engineer. The bituminous surfacing material removed from the existing
pavement may be used in other parts of works provided it complies with
the relevant clauses and approved by the Engineer.

After scarification and removal of all the bituminous layers from the
existing pavement to be overlayed, to the full satisfaction of the
Engineer, the existing pavement will be lightly sprinkled with water, if
necessary, and rolled with three passes of 80 – 100 KN smooth wheeled
roller. The existing pavement will then be proof rolled with 8 tonne
single drum vibrating roller in the presence of the Engineer who will
determine the suitability of the existing pavement for overlay.

After proof rolling, where the overlay includes a sub-base layer of

compacted thickness less than 75mm, the surface prepared for the overlay
will be lightly tined as directed by the Engineer No tinning is required in
case compacted thickness of sub-base layer of overlay is more than
75mm.

I. Widening upto existing BT surface with pavement layers:

a. If the toe as as per alignment by FRL lies within existing

shoulder, the shoulder will be cut up to embankment or subgrade
level as per suitability of the soil sample collected in the
existing shoulder at required level.
b. The existing shoulder soil sample will be collected and tested in
the laboratory for its suitability of embankment / subgrade.
c. Where necessary to facilitate compaction of the subgrade to
97% relative compaction, a depth of maximum thickness of
0.20m will be loosened, watered and compacted to not less than
97% of dry density.
d. Where the existing embankment / subgrade is to be widened and
its slopes are steeper than 1V:4H, continuous horizontal
benching each at least 300mm wide, will be cut in to the old
slope for ensuring adequate bonding between old &new
e. After the approval of the subgrade top, GSB material will be
dumped and compacted to the required 98% density as per lines
and grades.
f. After approval of GSB in the widened portion before laying of
WMM 1 s t layer 250mm offset will cut in existing carriage way
for inter locking with existing pavement to avoid the
longitudinal cracks.
g. WMM will be dumped and compacted in 2 layers each 125mm as
specified to the required density of 98%. Grader has to be used
for spreading leveling of WMM because use of paver for paving
1.5m – 3.0m
h. Widening of existing Road median portion(inner widening)up to
kerb bottom level with M-20grade concrete minimum depth of
450mm thick up to the width of 1Mtr, and more than 1 mtr width
the working method statement same as outer widening.

II. Kerb foundation concrete:

Foundation concrete with M15 grade is laid on median side existing

carriage way as foundation to kerb. Kerb foundation will not be laid
where inner side widening is required.

III. Laying of PCC up to required level:

If profile corrective coarse is BM, BM will be laid upto bottom of kerb

foundation.

IV. Laying of Kerb:

‘I’ shape kerb will be laid in straight portions, ‘L’ shape kerb will be
laid in super elevated portions.

V. PCC balance layer

Balance PCC layer with BM is laid upto kerb.
VI. Flushing upto PCC top in the widened areas with DBM 1 s t layer:

Tack coat is applied on primed surface in widened area. DBM 1 s t layer

will be laid in widened area flushing with PCC top.

VII. Laying of DBM for full carriage way width:

Tack coat is laid over PCC & DBM 1 s t layer after that DBM will be laid
for full carriage way width. 50mm to thick continuous layer shall be done
to the required camber lines & grades.

VIII. Laying of BC for full carriage way width:

Tack coat is applied over the DBM layer. 50mm thick BC layer will be
laid for full carriage way width.

IX. Reconstruction of existing road carriage way:

If the existing road surface lies within 1m of the new subgrade level
the same will be scarified to a depth of 50mm or more if specified, so as
to provide ample bond carriage way from the existing carriage way during
the course of work. Scarification shall be done 50x50 grown/Furrow
cutting maintaining 45 o angle.

7.0 Traffic Safety:

All the vehicles will have a red flags and reflective bands on the rear.
Flag men will be deployed where crossing of the existing road in unsafe.

8.0 Surface Finish & Quality Control:

Quality Control of the above work will be as per table 900-1 & 900-3
of MOSRT&H.

9.0 Management of Method Statement:

The senior Engineer (Highways) will plan and execute the construction
of Road widening with help of the Junior Engineers and site supervisors
upto the accuracy of the works as per the requirements and the same will
be checked and get it approved by Engineer.
