1 INTRODUCTION

The objective of the Condensate Stabilisation, Unit 90500, is to separate light components, C4 minus, from the
liquid condensate feeds from the existing Slug catcher 2,the new Slug catcher Unit 300, and from the Gas
Metering Station, Unit 1000.
Stabilised condensate is produced to product specification and sent to BCOT (Bintulu Crude Oil Terminal)/Day
Tank and the C4 minus vapour product from unit 90500 is recompressed and returned to the Gas Metering
Station to be combined with the natural gas feed to the MLNG Tiga Trains.

Unit 90500 consists of two identical Stabilisation trains.

The two trains are fed from common headers and feed their products to common headers.
Each train consists of a stabiliser column C-90511/90521 with associated facilities, and an overhead
compression system K-90511/90521.

The feed to the Condensate Stabilisation Unit is the liquid condensate from the Slug catcher Units and Gas
Metering Station.

2 DESIGN PHILOSOPHY

The feed rate and composition of the unstabilised condensate will vary during the life of the project, and feed
pressure and temperature vary with battery limit conditions.

Battery limit conditions of the unstabilised condensate feed are summarized as follows;

Minimum Normal Maximum

Pressure (bara) 65 78 98
o
Temperature ( C) 21 25 28

Generally, the control system in U-90500 is adequate for such variables.

If significant turndown is expected, some adjustment to the process variables, such as the adjustment of the
Stabiliser Reboiler duty for example, may be required to prevent off spec production.

During offshore upset conditions, free water may be present in the feed. The stabiliser column can handle a
limited amount of free water, but when free water is formed in the stabiliser column, column flooding may
occur.
The water handling capacity of the stabiliser is strongly dependent on the top column temperature. An increase
in the top temperature increases the water handling capacity and vice versa.

A water boot with level control is provided on the MP Separators V-90511/521 to capture free water from the
unstabilised condensate freed. The water boot prevents free water accumulation in the stabiliser column and
HIC corrosion downstream of MP Separator systems.

Although this operating philosophy indicates that the stabiliser units should be operated with one compressor on
line and the other available but not running, consideration should be given to the fact that idle major rotating
equipment may require more maintenance activity than equipment that is in continuous operation.

The feed to the Condensate Stabilisation Unit consists of liquids from the Slug catcher Unit, and from the Gas
Metering Station. The Condensate Stabilisation Unit is designed for 200% (i.e. each stabilisation train is
designed for 100%) of the slug catcher and metering station liquid, based on normal operation of the MLNG
Tiga trains at average gas feed, because as a result of the dynamic behaviour of the feed gas supply system,
variations occur in the feed rate to the Condensate Stabilisation Unit. At normal operation the Condensate
Stabilisation Unit is operated at 100% (i.e. each stabilisation train is operated at 50%) of the total liquid flow
(6460 t/d) from the Slug catcher. Each stabiliser column is designed for a maximum turndown to 19% of the
normal operation (9.5% of design).
There are two RVP specifications for the stabilised condensate product. The base case (Design Case 1) is based
on a low RVP of 8 psi. The alternative design case (Design Case 2) is based on a high RVP of 12 psi and has

been used for the design of the rundown system.

In case of the propane compressor K-91440 trip, high temperature HTF supply to the stabiliser unit stops. To
prevent off spec, gasoline production, the feed to the stabiliser unit, which was reboiled by HTF from the
tripped LNG train, has to be stopped.
The position of feed control valves for other stabilisation train will be maintained with last opening position.

Liquid feed from the existing Slug catcher 2, the new Slug catcher Unit 300 and the Gas Metering Station, Unit
1000 are pre-flashed in Stabiliser MP Separator V-90511 and fed to Stabiliser Column C-90511.
The MP Separator, V-90511, contains a plate-pack and uses a water boot to provide free water separation during
offshore upset conditions.
The separated free water is fed to the Closed Drain Vessel, V-305, installed at upstream facilities.

Part of the hydrocarbon liquid from V-90511 is preheated in 1st Stabiliser Feed Preheat Exchanger E-90512 and
the second Stabiliser Feed Preheat Exchanger E-90511, recovering heat from C-90511 bottom products, before
entering C-90511.
The remaining liquid feed is fed directly to the top tray of C-90511 as reflux. Vapour from V-90511 is also fed
directly to C-90511 between the two liquid feed locations.

C-90511 bottom stabilised condensate product is cooled in E-90511 preheating the column feed and in
Stabilised Condensate Product Cooler E-90513 and in E-90512 preheating the column feed, and sent to
BCOT/Day Tank after mixing the stabilised condensate from Fractionation Unit, Unit 91500.
The combined condensate rundown temperature at BCOT is designed to maintain 35 oC.

The overhead vapour product is compressed to feed gas pressure in the common overhead system of C-90511
and C-90521 by Stabiliser Overhead Compressor K-90511 or Stabiliser Overhead Compressor K-90521, and
cooled in the Stabiliser Compressor Discharge Cooler E-90514 or E-90524 and sent to the Gas Metering Station
to be combined with the natural gas feed to the MLNG Tiga Trains.

These compressors are piped such that either compressor can be lined up to handle the vapour from either / or
both stabiliser columns.
During normal operation either K-90511 or K-90521 is in operation for both stabiliser columns and the other is
stand by.

4 HSE ISSUES

4.1 HYDROCARBON

The following table summarizes various physical properties of the hydrocarbon streams in the Condensate
Stabilisation Unit.
EXPLOSIVE LIMIT OF HYDROCARBONS
Boiling Temp Liquid SPGR Gas SPGR Ignition Temp. Flammability
(ºC atmospheric) (15ºC) (Air=1) (ºC) Limit
(Vol % in air)
Methane -161.5 (0.3)) apparent 0.554 537 5.0/15.0
Ethane -88.6 0.358 1.038 472 2.9/13.0
Propane -42.1 0.508 1.523 450 2.0/9.5
Butane -0.5 0.585 2.007 287 1.9/9.5
Nat. gasoline 45.0 0.743 3-4 260 1.4/7.6
Pentan 36.1 0.632 2.491 260 1.4/8.3
Benzene 80.1 0.885 2.697 498 1.2/8.0

The following observations must be carefully noted such that in the event of an abnormal incident, suitable
precautions can be taken to minimize hazards to personnel and plant.

1) Except for methane, the vapours have the same or higher specific gravity as air and as such leakage
and spills of vapour or liquid will concentrate and accumulate at low elevations.

2) All components form explosive mixtures with air within certain limits and can be ignited when a
source of ignition is available. From the table, it should be noted that the "heavier" the component the
lower is the ignition temperature. In this context, great care should be taken that all pumps/motors are
well lubricated and maintained to ensure that mechanical defects do not become ignition sources.

3) High vapour concentrations of all components will cause oxygen deficiency while lower
concentrations will have an anaesthetic effect.

4) The unstabilised condensate feed and stabilised condensate product contain benzene that is suspected
of having carcinogenic properties above a very low threshold value.

4.2 MAIN PHYSICAL PROPERTIES OF NATURAL GAS AND CONDENSATE

4.2.1 NATURAL GAS (ETHANE, PROPAN AND BUTANE)

 Ethane, propane and butane are colourless, transparent liquids with a slight gaseous smell.
They are almost insoluble in water but soluble in alcohol and ether.

 The specific gravity of gaseous ethane, propane and butane is greater than that of air.
Accordingly, if ethane, propane and/or butane leak into the air they will move downwind close to the
ground surface and accumulate in depressions and on floor surfaces. They also have a strong tendency
to form explosive mixtures.

 As ethane, propane and butane are electrically non-conductive they may accumulate an electric charge
while flowing, or during filtration, dripping, spraying, or in the event of leakage. This in turn can bring
about a danger of fire due to a spark discharge.

 Ethane, propane and butane are not corroding metals.

4.2.2 CONDENSATE

The condensate described here is a mixture of pentanes and heavier hydrocarbons.

 As condensate is electrically non-conductive. It may become electrically charged while flowing or

during filtration, dropping, spraying, etc., which may lead to a danger of fire or explosion due to a
spark discharge.
 As condensate vapour is heavier than air it will lie close to the ground surface and settle in low-lying
areas, possibly at quite a distance from the source. It may also form an explosive mixture.

The following observations must be carefully noted so that suitable precautions can be taken to minimize
hazards to personnel and plant.

 The vapours have a higher specific gravity than air and as such leakage and spills of vapour or liquid
will concentrate and accumulate at low elevations.

 All components form explosive mixtures with air within certain limits, and can be ignited when a
source of ignition is available.
From the table, it should be noted that the "heavier" the component the lower is the ignition
temperature. In this context, great care should be taken that all pumps/motors are well lubricated and
maintained to ensure that mechanical defects do not become ignition sources.

 High vapour concentrations of all components will cause oxygen deficiency while lower
concentrations will have an anaesthetic effect.

 The gasoline product contains benzene that is suspected of having carcinogenic properties above a very
low threshold value.

TOXICITY OF NATURAL GAS AND CONDENSATE

Definitions

TLV-TWA (Threshold Limit Value - Time Weighted Average):

Concentration for a normal 8-hour workday or 40-hour workweek, to which nearly all workers may be
repeatedly exposed, day after day, without adverse effects.

TLV-STEL (Threshold Limit Value - Short Term Exposure Limit):

The maximum concentration to which workers can be exposed for a period up to 15 minutes continuously
without impairing self-rescue. Full definition of this limit is too extensive for this document, refer to the
ACGIH (American Conference of Governmental Industrial Hygienists 2000) for additional information.

Simple asphyxiant:
This refers to gases or vapours that impair the breathing capability of a person. The concentration limit is
governed by deficiency in the available oxygen (minimum 18% vol under normal atmospheric conditions).
Atmosphere deficient in oxygen does not provide enough warning and this must be noted by plant operators.

GASOLINE

For such a product, the aromatic hydrocarbon content normally determines what threshold limit values apply.
The expected threshold limit values of components, which are expected to be contained in the gasoline product,
are shown below.

The following TLVs (ACGIH 2000, ppm vol) apply:

TLV-TWA TLV-STEL

Butane 800 -
Pentane 600 750
Hexane 50 -
Heptane 400 500
Octane 300 375
Nonane 200 -
Benzene* 10 -
Toluene 100 150
Xylene 100 150

* Benzene is considered a carcinogen.

Also note:
If the human skin comes into contact with gasoline for a long period of time, the skin will become rough.

If a person drinks gasoline, he will suffer irritation of the mucous membrane of the digestive tract
Inducing nausea and vomiting, as well as spasms, sleeplessness, palpitations and respiratory difficulties.
If the quantity consumed is large, narcotic symptoms will be produced.
In experiments using rabbits, the fatal dose was found to be 20 ml/kg of body weight.

4.3 HYDROGEN SULPHIDE

IN THE CASE OF AN ACCIDENT, MEDICAL HELP SHOULD BE CALLED IMMEDIATELY

ANYONE ENTERING AN AREA IN AN ATTEMPT TO RESCUE SOMEONE SUSPECTED OF HAVING

BEEN OVERCOME BY H2S SHOULD FIRST DON BREATHING APPARATUS.

Hydrogen sulphide (H 2S) is a colourless, flammable, and highly toxic gas. It acts upon the eyes and respiratory
system, often causing severe pain and incapacitation.
It is six times more lethal than carbon monoxide, and can cause instant death if inhaled in sufficiently high
concentration.

Hydrogen sulphide also has a wide flammability range of 4.3% - 45.5% volume in a gas-air mixture.
Hydrogen sulphide is generally recognised by its characteristic foul odour, commonly described as that of rotten
eggs. This is especially true when H2S is present in low concentrations.

High concentrations have a sweetish odour. However, both in low and high concentrations, H 2S affects the
sense of smell to the point where smell alone cannot be relied upon to detect H 2S. In low concentrations and
prolonged exposure H2S "fatigues" the sense of smell to the point where an exposed person may fail to detect
the gas. In high concentrations the gas has a paralysing effect on the olfactory nerves.
Hydrogen sulphide is heavier than air and may, therefore, accumulate in low-lying areas such as drain points or
submerged pits.

In applying first aid, move a patient to the fresh air or to a well-ventilated room. If oxygen apparatus is
available and person trained in its use is present, administer oxygen to the patient.
If breathing has stopped, give artificial respiration. Keep the patient quiet during artificial respiration and at a
comfortable temperature, but not too hot. Give nothing by mouth to a patient who has not recovered
consciousness.

For personnel protection, hydrogen-sulphide detectors are utilised to sample the air from certain points in the
plant area at frequent intervals. Alarms warn of the presence of a hazardous hydrogen sulphide concentration
in the plant. Hydrogen sulphide leaks from equipment or lines can be located using a Draeger tube detector.

Sampling systems are designed to allow samples to be taken safely, but operators should nevertheless be alert to
the potential danger and should take the obvious precaution of being aware of prevailing wind direction and by
standing upwind of potential releases.

5 INTERCONNECTIONS WITH OTHER UNITS

5.1 CONDENSATE FEED

The feed to the Stabilisation Unit 90500 consists of condensate liquid from the existing Slug catcher 2, the new
Slug catcher Unit 300) and the Gas Metering Station Unit 1000 entering the Stabiliser MP Separator V-90511.
Regulating the feed flow from Unit 300 controls the level in V-90511.
The feed flow from Slug catcher 2 is controlled by a flow controller at the outlet of Slug catcher 2, while the
control valves are installed at the inlet piping to the MP Separator.
The relatively small liquid feed from Unit 1000 is controlled in Unit 1000.

5.2 STABILISED CONDENSATE

The stabiliser column bottom product (stabilised condensate) from two trains is combined.
The condensates from the Fractionation Units 91500 are metered in Gasoline Metering Skid A-93201 in Unit
93200 before combined with condensates from the Stabilisers.
Mixed condensate is subsequently rundown to Export Condensate tank T-3356 at BCOT or to a Day Storage
Tank T-304.
Off spec condensate in Day Storage Tank T-304 can be returned to the suction line of the Stabiliser Bottom
Recycle Pump P-90511 and recycled to the Stabiliser MP Separator V-90511 by the pump and reprocessed.

5.3 NATURAL GAS

The overhead vapour of the Stabiliser Column is routed via the Stabiliser Overhead KO Drum V-90512 to the
Stabiliser Overhead Compressor K-90511 and/or K-90521.
The discharge of the compressor is cooled via a Stabiliser Compressor Discharge Cooler and returned to the Gas
Metering Station U-1000 to be combined with the natural gas feed to the MLNG Trains.

stabiliser 905-PDIA-111 will increase.

When an increase in the differential pressure is noted in the top section, the operator shall increase the reboiler
duty to increase the water handling capacity of the stabiliser, to avoid flooding caused by free water.

 When incoming water to the Stabilisation unit is observed/anticipated by advanced information from
offshore and/or by alarm provided at the boot of MP Separator, the operator should drain the free water
from Slug catcher.

 During an upset condition, the operator should drain the water from possible accumulation points,
especially equipment and piping downstream of MP Separator V-90511, intermittently to prevent
water accumulation in the system to minimize the risk of Sulphide Stress Cracking (SSC) and
Hydrogen Induced Cracking corrosion. SSC corrosion is the occurrence of brittle fracture under the
combined action of stress and H2S dissolved in water. HIC corrosion is caused by the generation of
free hydrogen in an aqueous corrosion reaction with H2S.

This procedure is especially required for the process systems downstream of the MP
Separator, as the system is not designed to be HIC resistant.

 If the stabilizer column is shutdown by flooding of free water formation, the operator should drain the
column bottom hydrocarbon and free water to the day tank T-304 as soon as possible so that the free
water in the column does not cause any SSC and HIC corrosion on column, including trays.

 If higher reboiler duties are used to prevent stabiliser column flooding from free water formation (in
case of water accumulation in boot of V-90511), liquid (water) accumulated in Overhead KO Drum V-

During normal operation, the interconnecting

line between K-90511 and K-90521 is open and
either K-90511 or K-90521 is in operation for
both stabiliser columns.
The common suction pressure is controlled at 10

discharge to Unit 1000.
A dedicated pressure controller 905-PICA-

vent the overhead gas to flare in case both
compressors are not available.

K-90511/21 is provided with an anti-surge

WATER TO V-305

The liquid level in V-90511is controlled by 905-LICA-102 regulating the feed flow from Slug catcher Unit 300.
The relatively small feed from the Gas Metering Station Unit 1000 is controlled in Unit 1000.
An increase in liquid level in V-90511 closes the control valve and decreases the feed flow, reducing the level.
A decrease in level works in the reverse direction.

905-LICA-103 controls the water level in the boot of V-90511.

905-PICA-101 controls the pressure in V-90511. The unit liquid feed pressure is lowered in V-90511 to flash
light ends as much as possible, though the pressure is controlled high enough to be able to transfer the liquid
from V-90511 to C-90511 on pressure difference.

7.2 LIQUID FEED RATIO CONTROL TO C-90511

The purpose of 905-HY-102 is to allow the operator to adjust the ratio of the reflux flow, controlled by 905-
FIC-102, and the preheated liquid feed 905-FIC-110 to C-90511.
This is to maintain the column overhead temperature that is required for the proper separation of light
components from the stabilised condensate, in coordination with the reboiler heat input.
Decreasing the flow ratio calculated at 905-Y-107 (reflux flow rate/ preheated flow rate) will maintain the same
total flow rate, but will decrease the reflux flow rate and increase the flow rate of preheated feed. This will
decrease the required reboiler duty to maintain the control tray 2 at the correct temperature. This action will
also cause the C5+ content in the overhead vapour to increase.

The Slug catcher Unit 300 is designed to handle the largest liquid slug, which can be expected.
The level controller in U-300, 30-LIC-331B is cascaded to 905-HY-102.

The signal to 905-HY-102 and 905-HY-102M is only ramped down in case of low condensate inventory in the
Slug catcher, Unit 300.

During normal operation, the operator enters set point to 905-HY-102.

The calculation block 905-HY-102M is configured to receive the ratio set point from 905-HY-102 and perform
the required calculation (1-f).

In 905-HY-102 the fraction of liquid (f) fed to C-90511 as reflux via 905-FIC-102, is entered manually by the
operator.
The remainder (1-f) is preheated before being fed to C-90511 via 905-FIC-110.

The calculation block 905-HY-102M is used to calculate the output fed as a remote set point to 905-FIC-110.
The equation used is (1-f), where f is the ratio set point entered by the operator for 905-HY-102.

The calculation block 905-HY-102M is not accessible to the operator.

The calculation block 905-HY-102M is configured with “AUTO” Mode only to prevent the operator from
inadvertently changing the ratio to 905-FIC-110 inconsistent with the value of 905-HY-102.

During normal operation f is expected to equal approximately 0.3.

905-Y-107 calculates the actual reflux/preheated feed ratio as follows:

R = Freflux / Ffeed

Freflux : Reflux flow, measured by 905-FIC-102 .

Ffeed : Feed flow, measured by 905-FIC-110

7.4 STABILISER COLUMN TEMPERATURE CONTROL.

FROM
C-90511 BTM

The temperature of C-90511 has an effect on the removal of light ends (C4 minus) from the liquid flowing
down C-90511, and is used to control the heat input into the column.
This is accomplished by the temperature controller 905-TICA-121 at tray 2, which is cascaded to flow
controller 905-FIC-118, on the HTF supply to Stabiliser Reboiler E-90515.

The flow rate of the HTF is increased when the temperature of C-90511 is low and decreased when temperature
is high.
The aim is to keep the C5 plus content of the top product to a minimum and maintain the RVP specification for
the stabilised condensate product.

905-TICA-121 and 905-FIC-118 are configured as cascade controllers.

905-PICA-050, regulating control valve 905-PICA-050 in the common compressor discharge to Unit 1000,
controls the common suction pressure of K-90511 and K-90521.

A dedicated pressure controller 905-PICA-337 /905-PICA-437 is provided on the suction inlet of each

905-UICA-340 calculates the compression ratio from pressure measurement in the suction by 905-PI-333, and
the discharge of the compressor by 905-PIA-335.

Based on the calculated compression ratio and the discharge flow of the compressor 905-FI-346, the anti surge
controller 905-UICA-340 adjusts the required valve position for recycle valve 905-UICA-341 to keep out of the
surge region of the compressor.
The recycle valve will be maintained closed for all normal steady state operating modes, and will be required to
open during start-up, shutdown and turndown operation.

Manual opening of the valve can be done with 905-HIC-343

A constant speed motor drives the stabilisation overhead compressor K-90511 with a flow transmitter in the
discharge line of the compressor.
The compressor performance curves are based on actual suction conditions.
Therefore the actual suction surge flow must be converted to discharge design conditions and compared to the
measured discharge design flow to determine the proximity to surge.

A surge parameter calculation is performed to determine how close to surge the compressor is. The higher the
results of calculation, the further away the compressor is from surge.

The equation used to calculate the surge parameter is as follows:

Y = dp / (k * (P2 – P1))

Where :

Y is the calculated surge parameter (905-UICA-340)

P1 is the compressor suction pressure 905-PI-333
P2 is the compressor discharge pressure 905-PI-335
dp is the differential pressure [mbar] across the venturi at the discharge of compressor 905-FI-346 (905-

k constant determined from surge compressor testing

The surge controller 905-UICA-340 has a constant set point [30%] and can not be changed by the operator. The
compressor trips on surge detection (905-UZ-320) at a low surge parameter of 20%.

Since anti-surge valve 905-UICA-341 is a fail open valve, the analogue output block to the valve is configured
with Reverse action (air-to-close parameter ATC = true) on the signal sent to the FBM. This allows the PID

block output to indicate the percent valve opening, not percent output signal to the valve. The controller 905-
UICA-340 PID block is configured with reverse action to provide an overall DCS, controller + analogue output,
direct action.

The output of 905-HIC-343 is the output low limit of 905-UICA-340. This allows the HIC to force the anti-
surge control valve further open than the anti-surge controller requires, but does not allow the HIC to close the
control valve. When the HIC output is reduced, it allows the anti-surge controller to slowly close the valve with
its normal control moves. This allows the operator to rapidly reduce the percent opening of 905-HIC-343 when
transferring control to the anti-surge controller without a bump in the process.

 The PID block 905-UICA-340 and 905-HIC-343 are configured with a low output limit at 0% to
prevent anti-reset wind-down of the PID block output when the compressor discharge flow is above the
set point.

 The PID block is configured with “automatic” output mode only.

 “Manual” mode adjustment of controller 905-UICA-340 is not possible.

 Manual opening of the valve must be done with 905-HIC-343

Manual controller 905-HIC-343 is used as a manual override of the antisurge controller in lieu of providing
controller 905-UICA-340 with “manual” mode, that is, 905-UICA-340 is provided with automatic mode
enabled only.

7.7 MULTIPLE TRANSMITTER INPUTS FOR DCS FLOW

The objective of this scheme is to provide a single measurement for the process value where two differential
pressure transmitters are used to measure a particular flow, due to the measurement turndown requirement in
excess of 3 to 1.
In this scheme, one transmitter covers the low flow range and the other covers the high flow range.

The high flow range transmitter will loose its accuracy below its turndown ratio (typically 3 to 1).
Therefore, the low flow range transmitter shall be used to measure low flow.
A transition range overlaps the upper range (80-100%) of the low flow measurement and corresponding range
of the high flow measurement is defined and used in the following equation to generate a single flow
measurement whenever the actual measurement is within this range. This ensures a smooth transition between
the two transmitters from the low flow to the high flow range and vice-versa.

The objective of 905-LISA-101 is to prevent large two-phase hydrocarbon relief to flare due to vessel
overfilling.

At a HH level in V-90511 905-LISA-101 forces 905-LICA-102 and 905-Y-102 to MANUAL mode and the
controller output to 0%, closing the control valves 905-LICA-102 and 905-FICA-105.

905-LISA-101 and 905-Y-102 auto-resets, when the trip signal is healthy.

9.2 V-90511 DEPRESSURIZATION SYSTEM 905-HZ-101

This is to depressurise V-90511 to flare to prevent overpressure and relief.

 The valve 905-MOV-104 and 905-MOV-103 to be manually closed before 905-HZ-101 can be
activated to depressurise the system. An alarm is initiated when the MOVs are not fully closed if the
depressuring is initiated.

 The isolation valve 905-UZ-112 has to be closed. The switch 905-HS-107 on the logic 905-UZ-110 is
used to close the valve. If the valve is not fully closed upon the initiation of 905-HZ-101, an alarm is
sounded.

The depressurisation system will be activated from the control room by 905-HZ-101.
This system should be activated only when the main feed valves are closed to Stabiliser MP Separator V-90511.

This isolation will prevent the upstream slug catcher area from depressurising within the stabiliser area.

9.3 SPILL OVER LINE FROM SLUG CATCHER -2 905-UZ-110

The purpose of 905-UZ-110 is to prevent vapour breakthrough from the slug catcher in MLNG-Dua.

905-UZ-110 IS INITIATED BY ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SIGNALS

 Low-low liquid level in V-202A/B, the slug catcher in MLNG-Dua

 Trip signal from 905-KS-100 (Refer to Section 9.4 for 905-KS-100 details)

ON ACTIVATION BY LOW-LOW LEVEL IN V-202A/B, FOLLOWING ACTIONS ARE PERFORMED

 Close the isolation valves 905-UZ-112/212 via the solenoid.

 Close the control valve, 30-FICA-335A/B via the solenoid.

 Force 30-FICA-335A/B to manual mode and the controller output to 0%.

ON ACTIVATION BY THE SIGNAL FROM 905-KS-100, FOLLOWING ACTION IS PERFORMED

 Close the isolation valve, either 905-UZ-112 or 905-UZ-212

905-HS-210 resets 905-UZ-110 when the trip signal is healthy.

Prior to depressuring V-90511 by the initiation of 905-HZ-101, the isolation valve 905-UZ-112 has to be
closed.
905-HS-107 is used to close the valve. If the valve is not fully closed upon initiation of 905-HZ-101, an alarm is
initiated.

9.4 STABILISER UNIT FEED 905-KS-100

If the propane compressor K-91440 in Unit 91400 trips, the high temperature HTF supply to the stabiliser unit
stops. In order to prevent off spec, gasoline production, the feed to the stabiliser unit, which is reboiled by the
HTF from the tripped LNG train, is shutdown.

TRIP SIGNAL OF THE PROPANE COMPRESSOR IN THE LNG TRAIN IS SENT TO 905-KS-100.

The functions of 905-KS-100 are as follows depending on the operation mode.

9.8 STABILISER OVHD COMPRESSOR PROTECTIVE SYSTEM 905-UZ-300

The purpose of 905-UZ-300 is to prevent damage to K-90511.

905-UZ-300 IS INITIATED BY ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SIGNALS:

 High High liquid level in V-90512 as seen by 905-LZA-113.

 High High liquid level in V-90522 as seen by 905-LZA-213.

 Common machine trip from K-90511 package unit.

 High High compressor discharge temperature as seen by 905-TZA-361.

 Trip signal from 905-UZ-320, K-90511 anti-surge protection, 905-UZ-322.

 Manual trip from the control room by 905-HZ-340.

 Local manual trip by 905-HZ-341.

ON ACTIVATION 905-UZ-300 (905-UZ-400) PERFORMS THE FOLLOWING ACTIONS

 Opens control valve 905-UICA-341 via the solenoid 905-UZ-305.

 Forces 905-UICA-341 to MANUAL mode and controller output to 100%.

 Trips compressor K-90511by 905-UZ-306.

905-UZ-300 is reset by means of 905-HS-301 when all trip signals are healthy.

Both K-90511 and K-90521 are tripped on a High High level in either V-90512 or V-90522, as during normal
operation both V-90512 and V-90522 are lined up to either K-90511 or K-90521.
Alternatively, both K-90511 and K-90521 can both be in operation, with the valves in the interconnecting
suction line being open.
Therefore K-90511 and K-90521 are tripped on High High level in either V-90512 or V-90522, regardless of
the actual operating mode of unit 90500.

9.9 K-90511 ANTI-SURGE PROTECTION 905-UZ-320

The objective of 905-UZ-320 is to prevent damage to K-90511

905-UZ-320 calculates the compression ratio from pressure measurements in the suction by 905-PT-334 and
discharge of the compressor by 905-PT-336.
Based on the calculated compression ratio and the discharge flow 905-FT-345, the logic 905-UZ-320 calculates
the surge parameter.

If the calculated surge parameter reaches the surge limit, 905-UZ-320 sends trip signal 905-UZ-322 to the logic
905-UZ-300, the Stabiliser OVHD compressor protective system.

9.10 K-90511 BACKFLOW PROTECTION 905-UZ-360

The purpose of 905-UZ-360 is to prevent backflow of vapour from the Gas Metering Unit, unit 1000, to K-
90511.
The backflow may cause damage to K-90511 and the process system upstream of the compressor.

905-UZ-360 IS INITIATED BY ANY OF THE FOLLOWING SIGNALS

 Low Low flow from K-90511 as measured by 905-FZA-348.

 Trip signal from U-1000 Gas Metering Skid ESD by 10-UZ-301

ON ACTIVATION 905-UZ-360 (905-UZ-460) PERFORMS THE FOLLOWING ACTION:

 Closes block valve 905-UZ-363 via the solenoid.

905-UZ-360 is reset by means of 905-HS-361.

905-GBS-378 starts a start-up timer to suppress an immediate trip action by 905-FZA-348 temporarily to allow
K-90511 to establish flow from unit 90500 to the Gas Metering Unit 1000.

9.12 FIRE AND GAS DETECTION SYSTEM

COMBUSTIBLE GAS DETECTORS

Point type combustible gas detectors are located near seals of compressors K-90511/21.
These detectors are used for early detection of combustible gas leak from compressors and for prevention of
potentially hazardous conditions and explosions.
Combustible gas detectors have 2 alarm points, ‘high (H)’ and ‘high high’ (HH). The ‘H’ shall be set at 20%
LEL (Lower Explosive Limit) and the ‘HH’ at 50%LEL.
Any detector, detecting combustible gas above the ’H’ alarm point, shall initiate an alarm in the MPCC (Main
Plant Control Centre) plus visual & audible alarms in the local plant area.

TOXIC (H2S) GAS DETECTORS

Toxic (H2S) gas detectors are distributed in Unit 90500 plant area.
These detectors are used for early detection of toxic gas leak from any source within the plant area and for
prevention of personnel hazard.
Toxic gas detectors have an alarm point set at 10ppm.
Any detector, detecting toxic gas above 10ppm, shall initiate an alarm in the MPCC (Main Plant Control
Centre) plus visual & audible alarms in the local plant area.

MANUAL CALL POINTS

Manual call points are located along roads near the plant area and used to communicate fire detection to MPCC.
When a manual call point is activated the (existing) firewater pumps are started.

9.14 MAINTENANCE OVERRIDE SWITCHES (MOS).

Trip inputs to the IPS for Unit 90500 are grouped together for maintenance override purposes. Only one of the
trip inputs within the group may be selected at any one time. This is accomplished via interlocking logic in the
IPS.
An operator may override a trip input following the two steps procedure described below:

 The hardwired “MOES Override” switches on the Main Control Room Console for Unit 90500 must
be rotated, using a key, to the “Enable Override” position to enable the override logic. When the
“MOES” switch is rotated to the “Enable” position, a hardwired discrete input is given to the relevant
IPS.
Providing no other device in the same MOS group is currently on override and after a delay time,
designed to prevent use of the MOS as an operational override, a “MOS Selection Enabled” status
signal is transmitted to the DCS.

 Next, the specific trip transmitter tag number that is to be placed on maintenance override is selected
from the DCS MOS group display. When the tag is selected, it changes colour to highlight the
selection. Once the tag number is selected, the DCS sends a “MOS request” via the redundant serial
link to the IPS. The IPS determines if the MOS is permitted. This is only permitted if the MOES
“Activate” input has been received, and only one MOS is selected for Unit 90500. If both criteria are
fulfilled, the maintenance override is set.

When the MOS is set, the following actions take place:

 The trip logic is overridden in the IPS program

 A MOS override alarm (for the specific tag) is activated in the DCS
 A sequence of event point is recorded for the MOS activation
 The MOS field status light is illuminated at the transmitter
 The MOS LED on the MOS switch panel associated with the relevant MOS switch is illuminated
 The repeating MOS alarm logic is activated

When the operator acknowledges the “Maintenance Override Alarm” the alarm will not clear until the trip
device is removed from override. The “Repeating Group MOS Alarm” is common for any MOS input in the
group and will be repeated periodically until the trip device is taken out of override. After the operator
acknowledges this alarm, it will immediately clear the DCS.
While on maintenance override, if the IPS input crosses the trip setting a trip will not be activated in logic;
however, a trip initiator alarm will be activated in the DCS and the relevant MOS switch LED will flash. This
allows verification of the actual trip setting during maintenance.
The relevant trip device is only removed from override by rotating the hardwired “MOES Override” switches to
the “Cancel” position.

When the MOS is removed, the following actions take place:

 The elected DCS trip input will change back to the normal colour on the DCS display
 The hardwired “MOES Override” switch LED will be turned off by the IPS
 The “Maintenance Override Alarm” will clear if already acknowledged
 The “Repeating Group MOS Alarm” timer will be reset and prevented from recurring
 The “MOS Changed From Override to Normal” SER point is activated
 The “MOES Override” switch may be rotated to the centre “Neutral” position and the key removed

All “MOES Override” switch LEDs may be tested at any time by pressing the lamp test pushbutton on the DCS
Console.

9.15 TRANSMITTER DEVIATION ALARM.

Where two regulatory analog inputs are used to measure the same process variable, or a regulatory analog input
is measuring the same process variable as IPS trip analog inputs, a transmitter output comparison shall be
implemented.
The result of this comparison shall be a deviation alarm. The deviation alarm is derived in the DCS by means
of the CUSUM algorithm, which is part of the IPSIS package that is installed in the Foxboro I/A Application
Workstation (AW).
The analog value for each trip transmitter in the IPS is sent to the DCS via serial communication. The CUSUM
algorithm compares the two analog values (two DCS analog values or one IPS analog value to the DCS based
transmitter input).
When the deviation between the two values exceeds 3%, the algorithm will start the process of accumulating the
deviation value exceeding the 3% allowed transmitter deviation. After the accumulated value exceeds 99% of
the field device calibrated span, relative to the smallest calibrated span, an alarm will be activated in the DCS.
A deviation alarm between process and trip transmitter signals bears a tag with the numeric suffix of the process
transmitter.

9.16 IPS TRIP CAUSING ASSOCIATED DCS CONTROLLER TO BE SET TO MANUAL MODE

When an IPS trip output acts on a valve by de-energising a solenoid which is also throttled by the DCS, the IPS
will set, via a redundant serial communication signal, the DCS controller to manual mode and drive the
controller’s output either high or low to match the valve’s failsafe position
 For DCS selectors, switches, biases or calculations; after the operator resets the IPS circuit, the process
will not experience a bump. After the IPS logic is reset, the DCS output may be switched from manual
to auto and normal controller operation resumed.

9.17 ALARM MANAGEMENT PHILOSOPHY

Each alarm indicated on the PEFs will be assigned a priority level. There should be 4 priority levels assigned
for alarms:

(1) High priority level is assigned to those alarms, which require urgent action, by the operator to prevent a
major consequence such as trip of major equipment.

(2) Medium priority level is assigned to those alarms, which require operator action to prevent minor
consequence such as deviation from target.

(3) Low priority level is assigned to those alarms that require operator attention but do not require action
immediately.

(4) Recording priority level is assigned to those alarms that do not require operator attention but used for
information only.

High priority alarms are assigned red colour while medium and low priority alarms are assigned amber colour.
Recording priority does not require any colour assignment.

In order for the process alarms to be easily distinguished, two auditory tones are assigned.

 High pitched continuous tone for high priority alarms.

 Medium pitched tone for medium priority alarms.

10.1.2 START UP (APPLICABLE FOR TRAIN 1)

 Slowly crack open the 2” globe valve on the by-pass of 905-MOV-104 and slowly increase the output
of 905-LICA-102 to allow a liquid level to accrue in V-90511. During the fill up, continue to increase
the output of 905-LICA-102 gradually until 905-LICA-102 indicates a level of 50%. Then switch
905-LICA-102 from manual to automatic with a set point of 50%.

 Slowly increase the output of 905-FIC-110 and feed forward to C-90511.

o Ensure that the vapor is vented from the high points.

o Establish a liquid level in C-90511

 Open the 905-FRQC-112 by-pass and crack open 2” globe valve on P9050530 to D-WW to allow the
liquid to flow through the shell side of E-90511, through E-90513, and E-90512 tube side.

 Close the 905-FRQC-112 by-pass and the 2” globe valve on P9050530 when liquid flow is established
to the D-WW.

 Commission P-90511 and commence a circulation of condensate within the unit.

o Place 905-FIC-111 on automatic with a set point of 780 T/D.

o Place 905-FIC-110 on automatic with local set point to balance the recycle flow of P-90511.

 Commence a flow of HTF through E-90515 and commence the reboil of C-90511.

 As the temperature in C-90511 begins to rise, place the reflux flow controller 905-FIC-102 on
automatic with local set point and slowly increase the reflux flow. The operator must adjust the reflux
ratio manually by adjusting the local setpoints of 905-FIC-102 and 905-FIC-110 while continuing to
balance the recycle flow of P-90511.

o Import feed as required to maintain the unit inventory.

o Open 905-MOV-104 and closed bypass globe valve.

o Place 905-TICA-121 and 905-FIC-118 on automatic cascade control with a setpoint on 905-

10.3 START-UP OF STABILISATION TRAIN 2 WITH TRAIN 1 AND K-90511 IN OPERATION

The start-up of stabilisation train 2 is the same as described in sections 10.1.1 and 10.1.2. The only difference
in the line-up is that the stabilisation compressor K-90511 is already in operation and 905-UZ-363 will be open.
K-90511 is to remain isolated from stabilisation train 2 during the start-up until stabilisation train 2 is ready to
come online with the compressor.

The following procedure describes how to bring stabilisation train 2 online with stabilisation train 1 and K-
90511 in operation:
 Open the isolation valves in P9050042 and P050080 to line-up the second column’s overhead vapour
with K-90511 through the suction cross-over line.
 Slowly increase the set point of 905-PICA-437 from 10 barg to 11 barg. 905-PICA-437 will close and
transfer load to K-90511.
 Open the isolation valves in P9050089, P9050090 and P9050072 to line-up the K-90511 recycle to the
stabilisation train 2’s Overhead KO Drum V-90522 through the compressor recycle cross-over line.
 905-PICA-050 remains in automatic with a set point of 10 barg and will now control the overhead
pressure of both stabilisation columns.
 As the load on K-90511 increases, 905-PICA-050 will open and the anti-surge valve 905-UICA-341
