2. DESCRIPTION OF DESIGN

2.1 GENERAL

The electro-hydraulically operated single deck crane from TTS-LMG is designed


for handling containers and general cargo and
operates with a motor grab if required. This cranes offers to the client many
advantages, such as:

• computer/state of the art design with the result of robust construction and
low dead-weight
• first class components from proven manufacturers for high performance
• proven design based on the supply of more than 1.000 of deck cranes and 35
years experience of building cranes
• quality assurance according to ISO 9001 offers excellent quality to the
customer

The TTS-LMG deck crane is equipped with remote controlled device


for operation with an electro-hydraulic motor grab.

The operating and maintenance personnel has a safe access into the machinery
room and crane cabin inside the crane tower.

2.2 CRANE DESIGN / ACCESS

Acess via letter inside the foundation column; emergency escape from the crane
operator`s cabin is provided by means of a rope-down device which is stored
inside the cabin.

Crane cabin

The cabin is sound-insulated and resiliently suspended in the crane tower. The control desks are
arranged for subsequent installation of operating and control instruments for operation with remote
controlled cargo handling devices.

2.3 CRANE OPERATION / CONTROL


The crane is put into operation with the main switch on the switch cubicle. The
pump drive unit is started with push button (ON, OFF) in the driver's cabin.

Due to convenient two-lever control, operation of the crane is made considerably


easier. With the r. h. control lever the load is hoisted/lowered and with the l. h.

lever slewing and luffing of the jib is controlled. Both levers have automatic re-
setting.

All movements can be effected simultaneously and are steplessly controllable.

Control: electric/electronic
- with programmable logic controller (PLC)
- valve current control for steeples speed control
- sensitive control by means of speeding up and slowing down amplifiers
- by residual speed monitoring for a defined engagement of brakes,
hardly any jerks occur thus saving the brakes
- by simply switching-over in the control cabinet power can be reduced
and the working speeds limited at the same time (e.g. in case of
generator failure, weak shore connection, emergency operation)

2.4 PROTECTING AND SAFETY EQUIPMENT


- limit switches for highest and lowest hook positions
- limit switches for min. and max. outreach
- automatic reduction of the hoisting speed before the highest hook
position is reached
- automatic reduction of the luffing speed before the min. and max.
outreaches are reached
- slack rope switch
- safety valve to protect from overload
- automatic engagement of brakes for hoisting, luffing and slewing
gears in case of power loss (e.g. generator or diesel failure)
- automatic return to zero-position of the operating levers
- operating hour counter
- electric motor protection by thermal sensors
- indication of excessive oil temperature and low oil level
- digital indication of operation condition and faults for electrical and
hydraulic equipment
- built-in pressure gauging system for the hydraulic oil circuits
- alarm horn
- emergency-off switch in cabin and machinery room
- limitation of rope hoisting for sea lashing
- warning lamp (red) on the jib head
- external alarm out put for hydraulic oil level

2.5 MECHANICAL PART


Drive set
The single crane is equipped with a drive unit consisting of:
- one distribution gear
- three hydraulic variable displacement pumps
The three pumps supply the drive motors with pressure oil:
- through hose pipes
- in closed, independent circuits
- with power regulation in the hoisting gear
- with steples and independent control for all movements
A separate variable displacement pump unit supplies the circuits with control
and feed oil (mounted in the tank).

Hoisting and luffing gear arranged inside


Winches designed with:
- rope grooves (one-layer winding)
- planetary gears arranged inside
- hydraulic drive motor
- multi-disc brake, hydraulically lifted
- drums with slack rope switch

Slewing rim and slewing gears


The roller bearing slewing rim which is sealed against sea water, connects
the crane with the foundation column. This slewing rim allows the crane to
be slewed without limitation 360°.
The slewing gear pinions mesh with the stationary toothed rim.

- hydraulically lifted multi-disc brake

Rope and rope pulleys

2.8 CORROSION PROTECTION AND PAINTING

General
All plates and profiles are shot-blasted (SA 2.5).

The painting systems and paint products are world-wide available and
recognised products of HEMPEL

Internal surfaces
The internal surfaces will be finish-painted as follows:

2.9 SCOPE OF SUPPLY

The scope of supply includes the complete crane with:


- Crane tower with power pack, slewing rim with bolts, nuts and washers etc. for
mounting of the crane on the pedestal
Crane incl. equipment
- Crane jib with jib extension for sea stowage
- Standard tools for assembling and installation are not included. For the
duration of the erection / assembly of the cranes on board the vessel, the
special tools required for tightening the screws on the slewing assembly
will be put at customer’s disposal free of charge, and remain the property of TTS- LMG
- lower tackle block with hook (double hook)
- galvanised ropes (luffing, hoisting)
- lighting for jib, cabin and machinery room
- warning lamp (red)
- finish-painted interior and outside surfaces
- foundation top part
- slipring assembly with ladder rotating together with the slipring
