Personal Health involves making intentional choices to take care of your well-being. It's not only about your physical
health but also on your emotional, intellectual, social, economic, and spiritual well-being.

Personal Hygiene involves the habits and actions people do to stay clean and healthy. These practices are important
to stop illnesses from spreading, to stay healthy, and to feel confident. Personal hygiene covers things like taking care
of your teeth, skin, hair, nails, and overall cleanliness.

The key concepts of personal hygiene are:

1. Cleanliness: Keeping your body, clothes, and surroundings clean helps prevent the spread of germs and bacteria
that can cause illnesses.

2. Hand Hygiene: Washing your hands with soap and water regularly, especially after using the restroom, before
Developing eating, and after being in public places, helps prevent the transfer of germs from your hands to your body. Washing
Understanding of the your hands with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds contributes to the prevention of germ transmission.
Key Idea/Stem Utilizing hand sanitizer is equally efficient in comparison to cleansing your hands with soap and water.

3. Oral Hygiene: Taking care of your mouth by brushing your teeth three times a day or every after meal, using
dental floss, and visiting the dentist regularly help maintain healthy teeth and gums and prevents dental problems.

4. Bathing and Body Care: Regularly taking showers or baths and using soap helps remove dirt, sweat, and bacteria
from your skin, promoting overall cleanliness. Avoid sharing personal items like towels, combs, or razors with others.

5. Hair and Nail Care: Keeping your hair and nails clean and trimmed prevents the accumulation of dirt and germs
that can affect your health.

6. Clothing and Laundry: Wearing clean clothes and washing them regularly help prevent the spread of germs and
odor. Do not wear warm clothing like sleeveless or shorts in cold weather.

7. Respiratory Hygiene: Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue or your elbow when sneezing or coughing
prevents the spread of germs to others.

7
PILOT IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MATATAG K TO 10 CURRICULUM

8. Food Safety: Handling, preparing, and storing food properly help prevent foodborne illnesses caused by bacteria
and other contaminants. It is necessary to wash fruits and vegetables before eating them.

9. Safe Toilet Practices: Using toilets properly and washing your hands thoroughly after using the restroom prevents
the spread of germs.

10. Environmental Hygiene: Keeping your living space clean and well-ventilated contributes to your overall health
and well-being.

11. Self-Care and Confidence: Practicing good personal hygiene boosts self-esteem and confidence, as you feel more
comfortable and presentable.

Remember that personal hygiene isn't just about preventing illnesses. It's also about maintaining your overall well-
being and presenting yourself in a positive and healthy way. Healthy living is essential for a long, fulfilling life. It
positively impacts physical and mental health, boosts energy and vitality, and reduces the risk of chronic diseases.
Embracing a healthy lifestyle is an investment in one's overall well-being and future quality of life.

Activity 5: Role-Play on Exploring Disregard for Personal Health

Materials Needed:
1. Scenario cards (prepared in advance) describing different situations where personal health is disregarded.
2. Props (optional) to make the scenarios more realistic and engaging.
Deepening 3. Space for students to act out the role-play scenarios.
Understanding of the
Key Idea/Stem Instructions:
1. Introduction (2 minutes):
Start by discussing with the students the importance of personal health and how making healthy choices can
impact their well-being. Explain that they will be doing role-play activities to understand what might happen when
personal health is not taken seriously.
2. Preparing Scenarios (5 minutes):

8
PILOT IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MATATAG K TO 10 CURRICULUM

Prepare scenario cards that describe various situations where personal health is ignored. These scenarios could
include examples like:
- Staying up late to play video games and not getting enough sleep.
- Eating only junk food for an entire day.
- Refusing to wash hands after using the restroom or before eating.
- Not wearing warm clothing in cold weather.
- Skipping a day the brushing of teeth.
- Spending the whole day indoors without any physical activity.
3. Role-Play Activity (20 minutes):
- Divide the students into small groups. Each group should receive a scenario card.
- In their groups, students should read and discuss the scenario. They should think about what might happen to
the person in the scenario due to their actions.
- Give them a few minutes to prepare for the short role-play based on the scenario. They can use props if available
to make it more engaging.
- Allow each group to perform in front of the class.
- After each performance, engage the class in a brief discussion about the consequences of the actions portrayed in
the role-play.
4. Discussion (10 minutes):
After all groups have performed their role-plays, lead the class discussion using the following questions:
- What did you learn from each scenario?
- How did the actions in the scenarios affect the characters' health?
- Why is it important to make healthy choices?

9
PILOT IMPLEMENTATION OF THE MATATAG K TO 10 CURRICULUM

- What are some better choices the characters could have made in each scenario?
This role-play allows learners to actively engage themselves in realizing the consequences of disregarding personal
health, making the concept more meaningful for them. Below is the rubric which will be the basis in rating the
