B1. Explain the types of Hybrid electric vehicle, its architecture and energy flow. CO1 (10)
B2. Explain the function of AC charger with neat block diagram and types of different CO5 (10)
AC charger connectors.
B3. Discuss the control and converter topologies of SRM motor with a neat block CO6 (10)
diagram.
B4. Determine the following: CO3 (10)
1. The value and direction of the DC current Iav.
2. The power delivered/drawn from the battery.
3. The peak-peak ripple superposed on the DC current.

PART – C (40 Marks) CO Marks
C1. Design an e-car with your own aerodynamic considerations, charger and battery CO2 (15)
calculations, and motor and converter ratings with detailed specifications.

C2. Justify the efficiency of BEV is higher than conventional, Hybrid and fuel cell CO2 (15)
vehicles with suitable architecture and energy flow diagram.

C3. Model an electric scooter with a mass of 120Kg,passenger mass of CO2 (15)
70kg,Cd=0.75,frontal area of a vehicle 0.8m2,µrr=0.008,motor is connected to
rear wheel using a 2:1 ratio belt system, wheel diameter is 40 cm.

C4. Design an E-cycle using a PMAC motor which produces sinusoidal back-emf and CO2 (15)
Explain its control methods with a neat block diagram.

C5. Two batteries are galvanostatically tested (constant current, 10 A) to determine CO4 (10)
their electronic performances. The first charge/discharge cycle is the same for
both batteries. Mass of a single battery = 0.3 kg. After 200 cycles the following
voltage profiles for a single charge and discharge cycle belong to battery 1 and 2.
V1 = 4.3 V, V2 = 3.6 V, t1 = 10h, t2 = 20 h
V3 = 4.0 V, V4 = 3.8 V, t3 = 6 h, t4 = 15 h
Calculate i) Specific discharge capacities of batteries in mAh/g, ii) Specific energy
densities in wh/kg, iii) Columbic efficiencies. iv) Energy Efficiencies.

C6. An EV car owner driving 400 km every day in Chennai wants to charge his EV in 4 CO4 (10)
hours in the evening using his AC power connection at home. The car consumes
300Wh/km. What must be the minimum AC current rating for single phase and
three phase AC charging that he must install at his house, respectively? What
must be the minimum AC current rating for single phase and three phase AC
charging that he must install at his house if he decides to charge overnight in 8
hours?. Calculate the C-rating of the battery in both the cases.
