Introduction

to UBCV
(Module 1)
MISSION

The University of Batangas provides


quality education by promoting
personal and professional growth, thus
enabling the person to participate in a
global, technology and research-driven
environment.
A mission is an illustration of an undertaking and
an expression of the purpose of an organization. The
UB’s mission serves as a guide for the organization as it
spells out the overall goal.

UB provides quality education, which empowers


individual with broad knowledge and transferable
skills, and a stronger sense of values, ethics, and civic
engagement that is characterized by challenging
encounters with important issues.
As part of the formation of the students, the
university upholds professional growth and enables
the person to participate in a global, technology-
driven research environment. The students are made
to be capable of conducting research that will be
beneficial to the community and to the society.
Knowledge on research leads the students to become
fully aware of the needs of the society and the reason
why research is needed in order to solve certain
problems.
In the same manner, UB is also forming her students
to become morally upright and responsible citizens
whose concern for the community will always be his
primary consideration. His drive for research and
technology will be manifested in his desire to
conduct research whose topic will always be
beneficial to the school or to the community.
VISION

We envision the University of Batangas


to be a center of educational excellence
committed to serve the broader
community.
A vision is a clear explanation of the goal of
an institution that will serve as an inspiration
and provides a clear picture of what the
organization wants to achieve.
In the aim of UB to provide the students with the best
education possible, it continuously upgrade its
educational system in order to make its courses
responsive to the needs of the different industries in the
country and around the world. In so doing, the University
of Batangas is doing its best so that her graduates will be
able to find a job where they will be effective and at the
same time comfortable, owing to the formation
accorded to them by the institution.
In its desire to improve its services for the betterment of
the students’ formation, UB has gone through various
stages of development, which includes the improvement
of physical facilities, its services, and the educational
formation that she would render to the youths that are
in her maternal care. UB has undergone several stages of
academic improvements in order to make herself and
her graduates globally competitive.
PHILOSOPHY

The University of Batangas, a stock non-sectarian, private


educational institution, believes in the pursuit of
knowledge, values and skills necessary for the preservation
and improvement of the Philippine society. It has faith in
the dignity of the human person, in the democratic
process, in the reward for individual excellence, and in the
freedom of a person to worship God according to his
conscience. Thus, the institution believes that the
development of the individual as a person and worker is
an effective means in building a better family, community
and nation, and a better world.
Philosophy is a system of beliefs that are
considered as the guiding principle of an
educational system.

It provides a school a pattern by which the


authority in an academic institution will be able
to address both the basic and the pervasive
problems that will arise.
The philosophy of a school provides a means by which
the said institution will be able to instill to students the
basic idea as regards what course to take in life and the
ways by which they will be able to live morally with the
others. It helps the students understand one’s
responsibilities and leads them to live a life of
responsibility and service.
• The University of Batangas follows the philosophical principle
that every human person is good by nature. Man is created
as an imago Dei, i.e., as an image of God. As God is an
Omniscient Being, (All-Knowing), man carries within himself
a capability to rationalize and to choose the good and avoid
evil. In addition, God is the Summum Bonum or the Highest
Good. Therefore, man also has goodness within himself. UB
believes in this human goodness but needs to be maintain
and developed with the proper environment in order to
achieve individual excellence.
OBJECTIVES
• Pursue educational excellence in traditional and other modes of
instructional delivery;
• Promote well-being through an integrated process that will
enhance human delivery character and dignity;
• Engage in community services through varied educational, health,
economic and environmental projects;
• Ensure institutional improvement through dynamic programs for
human, physical, financial and technology resources;
• Adopt global perspective to achieve international
competitiveness;
• Commit to productivity and innovation in research, scholarly and
creative activities relevant to national development; and
• Maintain student leadership in academic and co-curricular
activities in South Luzon.
In the desire to maintain its identity as the University of
Choice, the University of Batangas finds its ways for
continuous improvements. After one achievements, UB
will be working its way in order to achieve another
achievements. This is manifested by the series of awards
that UB received from the different accrediting
agencies. Upon achieving success in accreditations, it
continues to aspire for more achievements because
accordingly, UB always wanted to provide the best for
her students.
UB provides an avenue for the promotion of the
spiritual and moral development of a person. UB
places great importance to its students. In the belief
that every individual is inviolable and sacred, every
students in the university is given due importance. This
is to be made possible by means of providing students
formative activities that can highlight their own
character and dignity; hence, the creation of this course
– The UB Core Values.

• The year 1946 were everything was in


shambles , the 6 hopeful young men
were not bothered by the political
and economical situation of the time.
–The march towards a better Philippines
began upon the establishment of the
WPC.

• Most of the people think that it would


be ridiculous to establish a school
during that time.
–Because of the intention and desire of
Mr. Juan Y Javier and Atty. Jesus
Arguelles in putting up an educational
institution, the other founder joined
them bravely.
Loud rings the cry of grim defy
Of hard attack let loose again

• Challenged by all odds, the six founders


pulled out all their resources, both
financial and intellectual, to draw a plan
for a school that will fulfil the dreams of
the young Batanguenos.
• They held another battle to fought and
have to face the biggest challenge: how to
rise up from rubbles.

The call to rise and stride

• The road to success was yet dark and


dreary. The founders knew that it would
be a great task to accomplish their goal.
But, the founders believe that success
could be possible if the young people
would be properly educated.
• The establishment of WPC was really a
call to ameliorate.
For the UB Men are marching
When they hear hike, hike, hike, hike!

• From 48 students who were the first to


respond to the call of the founders to
march towards success, WPC took the first
step of the tedious journey.
• The great passion of the founders in
educating the youth and their faith to
the Divine Providence became a great
formula for the growth of an ordinary
college towards a prestigious university.

• The administrators of the University are trying to
re-echo the heed of the founders to the young
Batanguenos, that they should become the true
hope of the country. The hope of the founders to
rebuild the nation through education for they
were the foundation of the better society.

• They obtained success and became great


contributors to the development of the society,
politically, physically, mentally and even
spiritually.

• WPC produced many successful souls and


the voice of those who received a good
education were echoing in many parts of
the world like in political arena, academic
communities, in business world and any
other professions.

• The founders tried their best to create a


community within WPC. They taught the
students to work hand-in-hand in order to
achieve their goal and taught to always
carry their alma mater through their
works and attitude.

And cheer along for Philippines

• The founders pictured the WPC students


as passionate young individuals whose
desire to rise and excel in their rafts and
profession can be manifested by the way
they live their life and serve the country as
a person, as a man of God and as a law-
abiding citizen.
– They committed themselves to form
students who are nationalistic and
patriotic.
UB SEAL
Meaning of the Seal

• Fr. Vicente R. Catapang conceptualized the


seal of the institution.
• The seal illustrates some broad relationship
between mental development and mental
growth.
– Inner circle indicates the thirteenth or fourteenth
year
– Outer circle represents the culmination of the
developmental period which occurs in twenty
eighth or thirtieth year.
In the inner circle is a star

• Each of the 5 rays of the star represents an


axis of development along the line of the
corresponding social inheritance.
• The base of each ray broadens out until it
embraces the entire development of the
child’s pre- adolescence life towards the
adolescent stage.

Instituto

• This refers to the discipline that WPC


provides to students.
–Disciplines related not only to academic
but also to moral and social discipline.
Scientia

• This refers to the sciences that WPC


was providing to the students
–Keeping abreast with the technological
advancements; and
–Being fully equipped with the necessary
scientific knowledge so that they may
be able too work in the different
industries.
Aesthetica

• This refers to the arts.


– Focusing greatly on the art of living well;
– Making way to make the students more
humane; and
– Being aware to the fact that a human
person is a social being.
• This also refers to the moral education
that UB provides to the students.
Literae
• This refers to the letters.
– Provide students with an appreciation not
only of the arts but also of the letters;
– Find reasons for the meaning of one’s
existence;
– Hone students to be reflective about life.
• One’s appreciation of literature leads one
to appreciate the true value of one’s self
and the world that he is living in.
Deus et Patria

• This means “God and Country”.


–A year after World War II;
–A situation wherein a call fro unity,
patriotism, and nationalism was so
vibrant;
–A year for prayer to ask God for the
Divine Providence as the Filipino People
rebuilds the country;

• The ideas of the founders were:
– To develop the student’s faith in God and
ones love for the country;
– To be nation- builders;
– To be true workers for the attainment of the
economic and political development and
moral upliftment; and
– To become freedom-lovers and God-fearer
which is a hallmark of a true Westernian and
true UBean.
