Let’s Learn about
Context Clues
Context clues are hints that the author might give you to help you
define and understand a difficult word. Look for these four types
of context clues when reading.

#1 A Synonym
He hurled the ball across
the field. He can really
throw that ball!
#2 An Antonym
“I’m not drowsy,” Ana said.
“I’m wide awake.”

#3 A Definition
Carnivorous animals like
to eat meat.

#4 An Example
Nutritious foods, such as
fruits and vegetables,
help our bodies grow.
Nutritious must mean healthy.

Ceremony means event .

Artificial means fake .
