1.0 SUBJECT
Tests and inspection to be carried out on "LV three phases asynchronous
motors" and their accessories after pre commissioning operations.

2.0 GENERAL

2.1 Instruments used in testing

- 500 V megger
- Clamp tester
- Thermometers

2.2 Requirements and limits to be respected

The motor under test cannot be energized if the insulation resistance between
phase and ground is lower than 10 Mohm.
Additional tests to those here described will be carried out according to required
standards and manufacturer's instructions.

2.3 Initial plant situation

The initial situation is the following:

- PC or QMM panel energized.
- Except in contingent situations, it is advisable to perform functional test of
control logic before carrying out the tests here described, to avoid to
disconnect again the power cables for functional test performance.
- The motor clean and connected according to project.
- Power supply cable tested and connected..
- Control cables no load tested and connected.
- Ground connections tested and tightened..
- Power coupling uncoupled with the half coupling motor side locked to permit
its rotation with the motor shaft.
- Preliminary mechanical checks performed.
- Motor signalled with danger warning bills.

3.0 OPERATIVE METHODS

3.1 Preliminary checks

- Take data plate and compare them with the project one's.

- Verify the safety conditions of the electric power supplies checking that:
. The switch be locked in the pulled out position;
. Heaters power supply be in safety conditions (if any).

- Verify the ground protection at the required points..

- Check concordance between the arrows indicating the motor direction of

rotation and the driven machine.

Checks on bearings:
Normally no inspection is performed on the bearings.
However, in relation to:
. Elapsed time between assembly completion and starting time;
. Preservation methods utilised;
. Environmental situation in the area in which the motor is installed.
It may be necessary to carry out some inspection.

- Bearings lubrication:
. Bearing lubricated in oil bath: fill the container to the level with oil specified by
manufacturer.
. Bearing lubricated by forced circulation: start the station verifying the level
and kind of oil.
. Grease lubricated bearings: for self lubricated bearings no procedure are
requested.
For bearings with greaser: replace the grease if the previous operation have
been made prior 6 months. In any case it is advisable to make the operation
with the machine in operation.

- Verify the heaters (where provided). In case that the heaters have never
been energised:
. Verify the continuity and insulation.
. Connect final power supply cable.

STD-EI-212 Page 4 of 6
. Energise the heaters and leave them in service to maintain the motor
warmed.

- Verify the insulation phase-ground with the power supply cable connected,
the insulation should be higher than 10 Mohm.

- Checks on power supply switch::

. Verify that the compartment be inspected and tested.
. Check that the thermal relay calibration be 110% of the motor nominal current
and record it on the table.
. Check that on the switch terminal board the cables be connected.

- Rotate by hand the motor shaft checking:

. Free rotation.
. Absence of rubbing.

3,2 Functional test

- Direction of rotation:
. Insert the switch and prepare it for remote control.
. Start the motor and stop it after starting point, verifying:
. The correct direction of rotation..
. That the deceleration takes place evenly and without rubbing.
. Motor stops without locking.
If the direction of rotation be not correct, the phases inversion will be made after
pulling out and putting in safety the switch.

3.3 No load test

- Start again the motor till its warm up.
- Verify manually the eventual vibrations and abnormal noises that can request
the instruments utilisation.
- Take the absorption.
- At the no load test stop the motor, pull out the switchbox and couple the
motor to the driven machine.
Note: In case be impossible to uncouple the motor from the driven machine, to
perform the no load test, proceed to the performance tests when the process
will permit it.

4.0 FINAL SET UP

- Power supply switch pulled out and in safety conditions.

STD-EI-212 Page 5 of 6
- Motor available for the following service operations.

5.0 ANNEXES

The test, to prove by documents the commissioning performance, is the
