Title: A Study of Fractional Time Derivatives of Thermosolutal Convection

Dynamics through a Vertical Channel with Slip Walls Filled with Porous Material
Abstract
This research aims to investigate the impact of fractional time derivatives on
thermosolutal convection dynamics within a vertical channel filled with porous material,
considering slip boundary conditions at the walls. Fractional calculus, a mathematical
tool that extends the concept of differentiation to non-integer orders, offers a more
accurate description of real-world phenomena, especially in complex systems like
porous media. By incorporating fractional time derivatives into the governing equations,
we aim to capture the memory effects and non-local behaviors inherent in such
systems. The study will involve numerical simulations using suitable techniques, such
as finite difference methods, to analyze the effects of fractional order parameters on
flow patterns, temperature and concentration profiles, and stability characteristics. The
findings of this research are expected to provide valuable insights into the fundamental
physics of thermosolutal convection in porous media, with potential applications in
various fields, including geothermal energy, environmental engineering, and materials
science.

Research Question
How does the introduction of fractional time derivatives influence the dynamics of
thermosolutal convection in a vertical channel filled with porous material, subject to slip
boundary conditions?

Aim and Objectives

 Aim: To investigate the impact of fractional time derivatives on the stability and
dynamics of thermosolutal convection in a porous medium-filled channel with slip walls.
 Objectives:
1. To formulate the governing equations of thermosolutal convection in a porous medium,
incorporating fractional time derivatives.
2. To perform linear stability analysis to determine the critical Rayleigh numbers and wave
numbers for the onset of convection.

3. To conduct numerical simulations to analyze the nonlinear evolution of convective

patterns and heat and mass transfer rates.

4. To investigate the effects of fractional order parameters on the flow structure,

temperature and concentration profiles, and stability characteristics.

5. To compare the results obtained from the fractional model with those from the classical
integer-order model.

Methodology
1. Mathematical Modeling:
o Develop the governing equations for thermosolutal convection in a porous medium,
incorporating fractional time derivatives using the Caputo-Fabrizio fractional derivative.

o Apply appropriate boundary conditions, including slip boundary conditions at the walls.

o Non-dimensionalize the governing equations to obtain a set of dimensionless

parameters.

2. Linear Stability Analysis:

o Perform linear stability analysis to determine the critical Rayleigh number and wave
number for the onset of convection.

o Investigate the effects of fractional order parameters on the stability characteristics.

3. Numerical Simulations:
o Employ a suitable numerical technique, such as the finite difference method, to solve
the nonlinear governing equations.

o Validate the numerical code by comparing the results with known analytical solutions or
experimental data.

o Conduct parametric studies to explore the influence of fractional order parameters,

Rayleigh number, Darcy number, and Prandtl number on the flow patterns, temperature
and concentration profiles, and heat and mass transfer rates.
