Architectural Theory 5

Scales in architectural design, surveying and terminologies

Surveying and Terminologies

Island (ada): it is surrounded by avenue, street,

square, trainway, river, etc. It consists of one or more parcel. Seperation ( ayrma-ifraz): According to regulations or plans, a parcel can be diveded into two or more parts. integration (Birletirme-Tevhit): According to regulations or plans, two or more parcel are joined together to make one parcel.

Diameter (ap): It is a document that shows the

boundries, positions and dimensions of a parcel. Reconstruction diameter (imar ap) It is a document that allows the number of levels, distance to road, dimension of new building that will be constructed. Reconstruction Plan (mar plan): It is a document, inside of municipalitys maps, that shows the data of natural environment and social structure of the city.

Master plan ( Nazm mar Plan): It is a

future plan that figured out the housing, commercial and industrial zones, green areas, transportation networks into a map that shows the current situation of the city

Scales of the master plan; in metropolises 1/10000-1/5000 cities 1/5000-4000 towns 1/2000

Boundries of development area (skan snrlar):

Boundries of accommodation zones which are permitted by regulations. Level height (Kot): Averaged sea level is taken as a beginning point to calculate the real height of a point in a building. Scale (lek): Ratio of a distance in a plan to real distance in site. Coefficient of Ground Area (Taban Alan Katsays-TAKS): It is a numerical value, calculated from the ratio of ground floor area of the building to area of whole parcel.

Coefficient of Floor Area (Kat Alan Katsays-

KAKS-Emsal): It is a numerical value, calculated from the ratio of total floor area (except skylight spaces) to parcel area.

Applications Plan (Aplikasyon Plan) Plan of all

site data (dimension-distances-level heightsboundries etc) which helps to sign the data to construction site.

Scales in architectural design

1/5000 scale plans:
They are Urban master plans, shows topographical slopes, nature (tree, sea, river, lake, mou ntain etc.) roads, motorways, promenade, sea-air ports, bridges, buildings, structures.

1/2000 scale plans

More detailed than 1/5000 plans. Show also all natural data, historical and archeological ruins, transportation networks.

1/1000 scale plans

Firstly they are top view elevations. And they are also pre-design plans, Urban application plans and site plans

1/500 scale plans

They are urban application plans. In architecture, 1/500 plans are used to figure out the general concept of the project, general functions, core of the building (stairs, elevator, wc), area of spaces (m2) level
heights.

1/200 scale plans

They are draft projects plans. 1/200 plans drawing technics are variable. 1/200 plans show walls, windows, doors openings, stairs, floor lines, ramps, elevators, retaining walls, slopes, roads, service ways, spaces (kitchen, toilet, room, ofice, etc.)

1/100 scale plans

They are draft project plans looks like 1/200 scale plans. But they are also pre-application plans (1/50). Clustered columns, curtain walls, and furnitures in the spaces are shown in 1/100 plans.

1/50 scale plans They are application plans. Shows structural system, all measurement s, level heights, heatingcooling systems, pipes, electric panel boards, lighting etc.

1/50 scale plans

Note: No furnitures are shown. Only fixed (kitchen cases, closets, shower tabs, sinks) can be drawn

1/20- 1/10- 1/5- 1/2- 1/1 scale plans- Details

They are detailed plans of a specific space, building elements,
structural components.
