also.
We will now learn how to apply mesh and property to the
part.
17. Click on the OCTREE Tetrahedron Mesh icon. You are
now going to choose the mesh that will be used by the
solver (ELFINI) to do the required calculations.

25. The solid property is included in the tree.
Before computation can be carried out, the model needs to be checked
whether each parameters defined earlier is consistent with each other.
26. Click on the model consistency icon.
27. A dialog box will be open to show the consistency of the model.
28. Your model should be consistent. Click OK.
29. Save the part and analysis document in your folder.

Computing, Analysing and
Reporting
1.To store the computed data, a temporary storage location
must be specified. Open the Storage Location on your
computer.
It will show you where your computed data will be stored.
3. Click OK if you are fine with the storage location. If not,
change accordingly.
4. Click on the Compute icon.
5. Select All. Make sure the Preview button is on.
6. Click OK.
Compute
icon
A dialog box regarding information on the computation
will be displayed.
7. Click Yes if your computer is able to run the simulation.
(Your computer should have no problems running the
simulation).
A HTML file is also available with detailed information on
the simulation result.
8. Click the icon shown to view it.
Report icon
9. Click on the deformed mesh icon to see the results of the simulation.
10. The image Edition dialog box is opened. Try changing the
parameters in the box to see what they represent.
11. Unselect the Display on Deformed Mesh button. Then select it to
see the difference.
12. Try changing the shrinking coefficient.
Deformed
mesh icon
13. Under Selection, you can choose either to see the
effects of the simulation on the whole body or certain
parts of the body.
14. Click on the Von Mises Stress icon as shown to see the
effects on the body.
Von Mises
Stress icon
Again you have the Image Edition dialog box.
15.Explore the contents and see the differences of each
parameters.
16. Next, click the displacement icon as shown.
Displacement
icon
17. Again, explore the dialog box.
18. Click on the Principal Stresses to see the state of stress
on the part.

Stresses icon
19.The parameters in the Image Edition has the same
function as before. Try to see what each represents.
20. Click on the Precision icon. This will activate the
estimated error images which are used to evaluate
computation error and the validity of the computation.
Precision
icon
21. Again, try to see what is in the Image Edition.
22. To display the different results parameters (i.e. to
switch from one image to another), you can right mouse
click at the particular parameter and choose
Activate/Deactivate.
23. To view images which are not superimposed onto each
other, first click on the images you want to view.
24. Click on the Image Layout icon.
Image Layout
icon
25. Then, select the direction along which you want tile the
images.
26. Select the X direction.
27. You will get images that are not superimposed on each
other tiled along the x direction.
You can also animate your images.
28. Click on deformed meshes on the feature tree.
29.Click the Image Animation icon as shown.
Image Animation
30.In the animation dialog box, try changing the values of
the Steps Number and see its effect on the animation.
A larger Step Number will give a slow but smoother
animation.
To view how the results are inside the part, you can use Cut Plane
Analysis.
31. Select the image you want to display.
32. Place the compass on the face you want the plane to be initially.
33.Click on the Cut Plane icon.
34.Select Show cutting plane.

Cut Plane icon
35. Move the compass to see the results.
You can also change the view the results.
36. Select an image to be viewed (e.g. Deformed mesh).
37. Click on the Amplitude Modulation icon.
38. Try changing the parameters in the dialog box and see what effects
it has on the image.
39. Select the deformed mesh in the feature tree.
40. Click on the Extrema Detection icon.
41. Choose Global.
Extrema Detection icon
42. Change the minimum extrema at most to 2.
43. The extrema values are indicated on the image and in
the tree.
44. To view results on your images, first select an image
from the feature tree.
45. Click the Image Information icon. A specific Image
Information box is displayed.
46. Scroll down the box to view what are the information
available inside it.

47. You can also view a summary of the results by clicking
on the Report icon.
48. Choose the analysis case you want to view. In this
case, choose the Static Case.
A HTML file of the results will be displayed.

FREQUENCY ANALYSIS
1. Open the part Hanger.CATPart. Make sure that material
has been added to the part.
2. Click on File Analysis and Simulation
Generative Structural Analysis to go to the Analysis part.
3. Choose the Frequency analysis.
4. Frequency analysis is added into the feature tree.
5. Click on clamp icon. Select both the smaller inner
surfaces of the top mounting holes.
6. Make sure that a property has been applied to the mesh
part. If not, apply a property to it such as what has been
done for the static case.
7. Check the model consistency. Follow the steps from the
static case.
8. Click on the distributed mass equipment icon.
9. Select the inside surface of the foot peg mounting hole.
10.Specify the mass to be 5 kg.
11. Click on the compute icon.
12. Choose all in the Compute dialog box.

13. Double click on the Frequency case solution. 1. A Frequency
Solution Parameter dialog box will be opened.
14 Specify the number of modes for the frequency solution to be 10.
When the results are viewed, it can be viewed in 10 different modes
of frequency. If you want to have more frequency modes, you can
do so by changing the values for the number of modes in the
Frequency Solution Parameter dialog box
15.Create images of the results you want to view (i.e. deformation mesh, Von
Mises stresses, etc).
You can choose to animate the images in the frequency you require based on
the number of modes specified earlier.
16. Double click on the image you wish to view (e.g. Deformed mesh).
17. Select any of the Dynamic Mode available and click OK.
18. You can try with the other dynamic modes to view its
effect on the images.
MESHING
Mesh is important is it determines the results of the calculation
based on its size and type. The smaller the type the longer time it
takes to simulate and the better the result.
1. To change the mesh specifications, click on the OCTREE
Tetrahedron Mesh icon.
2. Under Global, change the element type to be Parabolic.
Compare the results with the previous results.
3. Compute the model and compare the results with the
previous results.
4. Again, click on the OCTREE Tetrahedron Mesh icon.
5. Under Global, change the Size and Sag to be 10 mm
and 1 mm respectively.
Do not change the element type.
6. Compute and compare your results with the previous
one.
Which one do you think gives a more accurate result?
Why?
