 Introduction
 Sound and Noise
 Room acoustics
 Floor construction
 Space planning
 Noise control for main building equipment
 Conclusion
 Noise is unwanted sound . It can cause hearing loss ,
disturb communication or cause nuisance.

 Noise control is set up of strategies to reduce noise pollution

or to impact , whether outdoors or indoors.
The most common sources of noise in buildings are:-

 Externally generated noise from outside the site such as traffic, trains
,aeroplanes , neighbours and schools.

 Externally generated noise from within the site such as wind on the building ,
rain on the roof , heat pumps and water pumps.

 Internally generated noise such as loud conservations , washing machines

,televisions and air conditioners.
WHY NOISE AT SOURCE?
 Vibration of large parts .
 Irregular fluid flow in pipe setting.
 Improper maintenance.
 Due to transportation.
 Roadway noise and aircraft noises.
 Vibrating damping:-Applicable for large vibrating surfaces
. The damping mechanism from the works by extracting the
vibration energy from the thin sheet and dissipating it as
heat . A common material is sound deadened steel.

 Vibration isolation:-Reverts transmission of vibration

energy from a source ,to a receiver by introducing a
flexible element or a physical break . Common vibration
isolators are springs , rubber mounts , cork etc.
BY RESILENT SCREEN DECKING

The use of resilient screen decking reduces the

impact of rock on metal.
 Sound is a form of energy that is transmitted by pressure
vibrations that travel through the air or other medium.

 Sound waves combine and reach a listener via direct and indirect
Pathways .

 Noise nuisance is excessive noise or disturbance that may have a

negative effect on health.
 Room acoustics pertains to the physical characteristics of a space,
of the hearing of direct and reflected Sound.

 The persistence of the sound creates unwanted sound with high

level of reflected sound.

 The time required for the sound to be absorbed gradually and

reduced below hearing levels.
 Floor function and assemblies perform two acoustical functions.

 Like walls , they provide and acoustical between adjacent spaces ,

but they also reduce the sound of footballs around and other
impact sounds from an upper floor (impact insulation).
 Space the can be the most cost effective noise control technique.

 Avoid locating mechanical equipment rooms and electrical

transfer rooms near spaces ( either horizontally or vertically ) that
require low back ground noise levels .
 Large fans are used as part of their conditioning system, in a
building are source of significant amount of unwanted noise.

 The cost of mitigation may exceed the cost saving for a less
expensive.
 As the architectural and engineering design of project evolves
the design should be reviewed ,in the light of the agreed upon
acoustical programme requirement for the building project.

 A city or state building official cannot be exposed to comment,

in the acoustical design in the contract documents.
