• Safe : Gas insulated Substations are very safe and operating
personnel are protected by the earthed metal enclosures. While the
Substation in operating condition the Operating personnel can
touch the compartment.
• In AIS Operating personnel can not enter in to the Switchyard While
the Substation is in operating condition.
• Less Space : SF6 switchgear installations take up only 20% of the
space required Compare To AIS.
• In AIS Large space is required due to live parts is in open air.
• Maintenance free : An extremely careful selection of materials, an
expedient design and a high standard of manufacturing quality
assure long service life with practically no maintenance
requirement.
• In AIS All the Electrical components is in open Air. So frequently
maintenance required for cleaning of components.

• Sulfur hexafluoride is an inorganic, colorless,
odorless, non-flammable, extremely potent
greenhouse gas which is an excellent electrical
insulator. SF6 has an octahedral geometry,
consisting of six fluorine atoms attached to a
central sulfur atom.

• Feeder Normal Condition :

Earth Switch : OFF Position
Dis-connector Switch : OFF Position
Circuit Breaker : OFF Position
• Switch ON Feeder :
First Dis-connector Switch ON
Second Circuit Breaker ON
(Electrical Interlock Between Dis-connector and circuit Breaker and Dis-
connector and Earth Switch)
• Switch OFF Feeder :
First Circuit Breaker OFF
Second Dis-connector Switch OFF
(Electrical Interlock Between Dis-connector and circuit Breaker and Dis-
connector and Earth Switch)
33KV GIS PANEL MECHANICAL SWITCHING OPERATION
• Switch ON-OFF Dis-connector Manually by Crank Handle :

Fix the Crank Shaft and Rotate the handle on Clockwise position for Switch ON the dis-
connector.
Fix the Crank Shaft and Rotate the handle on Anti-clockwise position for Switch OFF
the dis-connector.
• Switch ON-OFF Earth-Switch Manually by Crank Handle :

Fix the Crank Shaft and Rotate the handle on Clockwise position for Switch ON the
Earth-Switch.
Fix the Crank Shaft and Rotate the handle on Anti-clockwise position for Switch OFF
the Earth-Switch.
• Switch ON-OFF Circuit Breaker Manually by Push Button:

Push the Mechanical Push Button “I” For Closing of CB.
Push the Mechanical Push Button “o” For Opening of CB.
• Spring Charging Motor Manually charged by Crank handle:

Fix the Crank Shaft in Spring Charge plug and Rotate the handle on Clockwise position
for approximately 25 Rotations.
• Switching of Bus Voltage Transformer :

Fix the Crank Shaft and Rotate the handle on Clockwise by Approx. 10 turns, Until the
switch position indicator of the voltage transformer is completely in “ON” position.
Fix the Crank Shaft and Rotate the handle on Anti-Clockwise by Approx. 10 turns, Until
the switch position indicator of the voltage transformer is completely in “EARTHED”
position.

Earth Switch : OFF Position
Dis-connector Switch : OFF Position

• Feeder Isolation Condition :
