Covering procedures:
1- determining fabric strength
- Fabric considered to be airworthy until it is evaluated to be less than 70% of
its original strength.
- methods of determining fabric strength:
a) seyboth tester.
b) maule tester.
2- fabric-covering removal
- follow the manufacturer’s service manual procedures.
3- structural inspections:
a) fuselage and empennage structures.
b) wing structures.
4- installing the fabric:
- methods of fabric covering:
a) Envelope method of wing covering
- at the wing root use a baseball stitch wit at least 4 stitches per inch and
lock the stitch every 6 inches.
b) blanket method of wing covering

5- Removing the wrinkles
-wet the fabric thoroughly with either
distilled or demineralized water.

1- inspection
- visually inspect fabric for:
a) physical wear.
b) general deterioration .
c) rot or decay .
2- Repair types:
a) L-shaped tears in the fabric
b) Dope-in patch.
c) Sewed-in patch.
d) dope-in panel.
