The lineage of Rizal has been traced
to a mixture of East and West
countries.

The following are the outline of


his lineage:

Domingo Lam-co
(1662 – c. 1732)
• A Chinese immigrant from
Amoy, China
• Used “Mercado” as his
surname in 1731.
• Was close friends with
Spanish friars Francisco
Marquez and Juan Caballero
• Married a half-Chinese lady,
Ines dela Rosa.
• Rizal’s great-great grand father
Francisco Mercado
• Born in Biñan, Laguna in 1731
• Son of Domingo Lam-co and Ines dela Rosa
• Was named after mestizo friar known for his
botanical study.
• Married Bernarda Monicha of San Pedro, Laguna
• Had five children; namely, Clemente, Benito, Tomas,
Evarista and Juan Mercado.
• Was elected Gobernadorcillo (municipal mayor) of
Biñan in 1783.

• Rizal’s grand father
• Married Cirila Alejandro, a Chinese mestiza
• Became the Mayor Alcalde of Biñan while his
wife, Cirila, the Municipal Mayor.
• Had 13 children (Petrona, Potenciana, Gabino,
Tomas, Gregorio, Cornelia, Gabriel, Fausta,
Leoncio, Casimiro, Julian, Basilisa and
Francisco Mercado Rizal).
• Died when his youngest son was only eight.
Francisco Engracio Rizal Mercado y Alejandro
(1818-1898)
• Born in Biñan, Laguna on April 18, 1818
• Studied Latin in Laguna and later on
study Latin and Philosophy in Colegio
de San Juan de Letran Manila.
• Married Teodora Alonzo Realonda on
June 28, 1848
• His username was changed to “Rizal”
• Died shortly after Rizal in the home of
his daughter, Narcisa Rizal in Binondo,
Manila on January 5, 1898.

• At 20, she married Francisco Mercado, a
