DEFINE A FACT?
•A fact is a true statement.
TWO QUALITIES OF FACTS
• A fact has evidence, or proof.
• A fact can be observed.
FACTS…
1. Contain data and research.
• Cannot be proved.
LOOK AT THESE SAMPLE SENTENCES:
• In the first given sentence, the underlined phrase is the word signal that can be used in
giving opinion.
• Signal words that suggest opinion include words such as "prefer," "think,“ "feel,"
"should," "best" and other opinion words or phrases. While fact signal words are
supported by scientific information, numbers, dates, and statistics.
WHAT IS OPINION-MARKING
SIGNAL?
• Opinion-marking signals are words and phrases that are used
to identify an opinion.
• Usually, it is used at the beginning of the sentence to
introduce your personal point of view in a specific time in
your own perspective and style.
• It is used to show the connection between the ideas that
imply the point of view of the speaker or writer.
Examples:
1. In my point of view, the discipline of the citizen in using social
media can contribute to the peace and order of our country.
2. In my experience, social media has positive and negative effects
on our mental well-being.
