    Banda Singh Bahadur was originally named Lachman Das and was born in 1670 in Kashmir. He left home to become an ascetic and took the name Madho Das Bairagi. In 1708, he met Guru Gobind Singh and was given the name Banda Singh Bahadur after being baptized. With 25 Sikhs, he set out to fight the Mughal rulers. He had several military victories including capturing Sirhind in 1710 where he killed the governor responsible for executing Guru Tegh Bahadur. Banda Singh established himself as a ruler and struck coins in the name of the Sikh Gurus. However, he was eventually defeated and captured. He
