IMPLEMENTATION
 Religion has influenced punishment and rehabilitation philosophies since the beginning of prisons
and jails. Whether motivated by religious convictions or a sense of civic duty, "the church" has
aided in the direction of modern corrections. For more than a century, prisoners have relied on
the church for spiritual guidance and support. In addition, the church has provided and
continues to provide a wide range of secular services to prisoners, ex-prisoners, and their
families. Traditionally, these services have included food, shelter, and clothing. Education,
employment, and housing assistance are among the other services available. Other services
available in communities across the country include crime prevention, substance abuse
counseling and treatment, and victim assistance. Over the years, there has been a resurgence of
religion in our prisons in the Philippines. As a result, a wider range of faith practices have
entered prisons, and the number of religious services and activities has grown. Today, a variety
of faiths are practiced in jail facilities, and religious program services vary greatly.
