TYPES OF PACKAGING
MATERIALS
PLASTIC
-considered as the most common
packaging material.
-They are light, strong, and
cheap to manufacturers.
Examples:
METALS
-appropriate for food packaging.
-For drinks and beers, aluminum
is usually used.
-Sardines and milks, tin can.
Examples:
BRICK
CARTON
-This is light, strong air tight
packaging material. Its complex
composition makes it difficult to
recycle. It becomes the main
material used for basic
foodstuffs.
Examples:
CARDBOARD
In all cases, this packaging material
is easy to recycle, and reuse. It is
used in the form of boxes, sheets
corrugated cardboards.
Examples:
GLASS
-This is the traditional vessel in the
home, (jars, glasses, jugs, and
others).
-It is used to preserved foods such as
jams and honey
- Glass is also use for sodas, beer, and
wine.
Examples:
COTTON
-This packaging used a calico , a
closely woven, strong plain cotton
fabric.
-This usually use for flour, grains,
legumes, coffee beans, and powdered
or granulated sugar.
Examples:
LEAVES
-Banana or plantain leaves are the
most common and widespread leaves
used for wrapping foods such as
suman, cheese, and confectionary.
