PALAWAN

MUSIC
•Lalawigan ng Palawan is an island
province of the Philippines located in
Region 4. Its capital is Puerto Princesa
City.
Palawan, the largest province in the Philippines, is
home to several indigenous ethnolinguistic groups:

1. Batak - which means “mountain people”.


These people believe in nature spirits, with
whom they communicate through a Babaylan.
2. Palawenos – native-born dwellers

3. Palawano – also known as Pala’wan, is one of the


unique indigenous peoples of Palawan.

4. Tagbanwa – or “the people of the world” are


found in central and northern palawan.

 It is a lyrical poem

 It is a chanted vocal music
about epic heroes and usually
chanted at night, ending at
daybreak.
ULIT
 It is a shamanic chant.
Shamanic deals with the act
of curing the sick through
rituals like chanting.
BATAC
 It is a chant performed by the Taganuas five
days after the internment of the deceased. This
song performed for three consecutive nights
until dawn.

Cuyunon Folk Songs
 Cuyunon refers to ethnic group in Cuyo Islands
and other parts of Palawan. Some of their most
familiar and favorite songs are the Tarinting,
Layang Pasyak, and Kingking.

four groups:

This instrument is also known as
KOLITONG. It is made of one whole

slit serves as the resonator.

This instrument has 9 frets and 2
strings. The body of this instrument
comes from a carved solid trunk of
a tree.

Tipanu
This is a Mouth Flute of
Tagbanua. This is made from
bamboo. It has six holes.

Aruding
This is, otherwise, known as
Jaw’s Harp.

Beberek or
Suling
A banded nose flute. It is made
from bamboo with thin surface.
The head of this instrument is
circled with rattan band to
produce air vibration.
Idiophones
Basal (Gong)
An example of this is the Babendil.
It is a small bossed gong as a
timekeeper.

Gimbal
This is a drum from the Tagbanua
with animal skin as its drumhead.
