FOR AND AGAINST ESSAYS
In this type of essay, students will have to write different advantages or disadvantages / positive or negative
aspects about a topic. You don’t give your opinion, maybe at the very end in your conclusion.

STRUCTURE:
1. Introduction: 3-4 lines where you generally introduce the topic without giving
your opinión and pointing to the type of composition you are going to write

Throughout the past two decades, the use of mobile phones at school
has been on the rise on a worldwide basis. This topic is very
controversial as not everybody shares the same opinion / thinks this
is beneficial for students. What are the actual advantages and
disadvantages?

These days/ Nowadays the use of mobile phones at school is a very


controversial topic as it splits opinions. Some people claim that they
are a powerful learning tool, while others state that they have a
detrimental effect on students. So what are the pros and cons of using
them within the classroom?

On the one hand, it is undeniable that using mobile phones as


learning tools has positive effects on students. First and foremost,
they become more independent from the teacher as they can search
for as much information as they need to. Moreover, students are
much more motivated when learning as they have a very attractive
and stimulating tool with them.
At a first glance, it stands to reason the many pros that learning
with mobile phones can bring to students. Not only do they become
more independent as they can find any information they need by
themselves, but also they are far more motivated within the
classroom as they are learning with that they like best.

On the other hand, it is paramount to keep in mind the negative


effects that mobile phones can have on students. To start with, these
devices are extremely addictive, especially for the youngsters.
Besides, students may get distracted too often by other stimuli
which are not related to the subject such as social media.
Be that as it may, it is vital to reflect on those disadvantages that
learning with mobile phones has. By and large, one cannot ignore
the fact that the more students use their mobile phones, the more
addicted they get to them. Additionally, students’ phones are filled
with non-educational material that can make them distracted too
often.

high time to bite the bullet and try to find a solution for this
dilemma which makes students not enjoy their lessons as they should.
