INTRODUCTION
 Now-a-days, driver drowsiness is a significant factor in fairly large
number of vehicle accidents. From 2020-2023, more than 4000 people
died due to drowsy driving. Drowsy driving led to 795 deaths in 2023.

Therefore, a technology to prevent and detect driver drowsiness is a

major challenge in the field of accident avoidance systems. Since the
drowsiness presents a hazard on the road, therefore counteractive
methods need to be developed to deal with its effects.
 The focus of this project is on designing a system that will accurately
monitor the duration of open or closed state of the driver's eyes in real-time.
By monitoring the eyes, the driver can be alerted well in advance to avoid
accidents and this is possible if eye closed for long time.

OBJECTIVE

The aim of this project is to develop a prototype for drowsiness detection

system which helps prevent road accidents on large scale
METHODOLOGY

 The web camera sense the eye blinking of the driver while driving by
using the concept of deep learning.

deep learning compares the image of the eye with which already trained.

If it detects the closing of the eye, the mobile display the confirmation
message to the driver for confirmation of his not drowsy.

If the driver fails to response the message shown, then the buzzer will on
for the alerting the driver.

TITLE

Driver Drowsiness Detection

System Using Sensors

DESCRIPTION

A low-cost and simple distributed sensors model that is particularly

suitable for measuring eye blink of the driver, accident and hand position
on a steering wheel. These sensors can be used in automotive active safety
systems that aim at detecting driver's fatigue, a major issue to prevent
road accidents.
The key point of this approach is to design a prototype of sensor units, so that it
can serve as platform for integrating different kinds of sensors into the steering
wheel. The wheel is slowed or stopped depending on the condition.

DISADVANTAGE

a. The driver has to wear the eye blink sensor frame while driving.

b. Only one DC motor has been used which represents only one wheel of the
vehicle.

Driver drowsiness detection and alert

system

Description
Truck drivers, company car drivers and shift workers are the most at risk of
falling asleep while driving. Majority of the accidents occur due to the
drunkenness of the driver. The burden of which lies on the company owner as
they are made liable. It can lead to economic loss. In this presentation we
present an adaptive driver and company owner alert system and an application
that provides driving behaviour to the company owner.
DISADVANTAGE

a. The driver has to wear the eye blink sensor frame

while driving.

b. The speed of the car can't be controlled in this

method
 After the completion of given seconds, the module takes the picture of the
driver being drowsy.

It passes the message, Image and location of driver to the owner through
mobile android application via mail.

The sensing of drowsiness, capturing the image through mobile camera and
sending details to the owner via mail are the most essential goals.

After completion of sending of the image, the speed will be limited or

reduced.
ADVANTAGES

 The driver no need to wear any spectacle for the sensing

system mechanism.

There are four DC motors are used for the speed limit
process for the vehicle.
DISADVANTAGES
False Alarms and Missed Detections: Drowsiness detection systems can be prone to both false
positives and false negatives, reducing reliability.

• Environmental Sensitivity: Factors like poor lighting or extreme conditions may impact the
system's accuracy.

•Maintenance and Cost: Regular maintenance is crucial, and the initial implementation and upkeep
costs can be significant.

•Limited Applicability: Drowsiness detection systems may not be suitable for all contexts, making
universal thresholds challenging.

•Privacy and Ethics Concerns: Continuous monitoring raises privacy and ethical considerations that
need careful attention.
